This has been covered loads recently, what is it with driveshaft suddenly all going.
IIRC the driveshaft is about £100. PLus labour, plus as its the N/S the gearbox oil will spill and need to be replaced or put back in. Probably only a few hours work though if they know what there doing.
When you start it the display should read 000000. if it reads 00000- then needs some oil. If it reads ------ then dont even start it. Best to check it manually anyway coz apparently its not very accurate.
Just take the shaft out, take it, some table polish and the boot along to a local garage and ask them borrow a cone to fit it. Or for them to just push it on for you. It takes 30 seconds to actually push the boot onto the shaft. Then just fill it with grease and put the clips on.
Take home and...
Shouldnt affect your no claim bonus, you'll have to ask your insurance to be sure but it usually doesnt. Or that might just be for windscreen chippage repairs. £70 is alot better than what it will cost you to get a new one.
You only really need to take the hub nut off, jack the car up, take the wheel off, undo the two suspension strut bolts and then pull the whole hub to the left and you can pull/wiggle the driveshaft out from the hub.
You can take the hub off to see what your doing a bit clearer but you dont...
^Thanks
Does anyone know where I can get a detailed diagram of the ignition barrel? Once its out I might have a go at fixing it. All it is, is that it doesnt spring back from the 3rd position.
Also, does anyone know if the immobiliser is part of the barrel or can be changed over? Not sure which type it is? 1999 1.6 16v.
Dont wanna start taking it apart yet either incase I cant get it back together.
Just read the bold if you cant be arsed with my s**tty little rant.
Few weeks ago I went to start my car and I felt something ping. I thought the barrel had locked up but managed to get it working by wiggling the key a bit however when you turn to the 3rd position to engage the starter motor...
Ive just got Toyo T1Rs, £123 inc. delievery on ebay. So far so good, only tried out in the wet and not proper pushed them yet because of the bad things ive heard about them. But they seem good to me for the price.
I had a similar thing and it was one of the suspension strut bolts that connects to the hub was a little loose. Worth just checking all the bolts are nice and tight.
Edit:Just read 'rear offside' but just check all the bolts.
