I'm debating the same, gonna see what I can get trade in for mine.
I keep twisting my groin since I've had it lowered, but then I shouldn't be a fat sod.
Not sure what the problem is but here is a description:
first 2 gears, no issues - will go up the rev's no problems
the problem happens sometimes in 3rd but mostly in higher gears when going just over a tonne.
I get little patches of power loss, as if the petrol is blocked, not sure if...
The 172 had 2 phases and took over from the williams mantle, when it had run its course Renault gave it a mini make over, a bit of extra power, some new hype, and then cashed in again. The 182 didn't run for half as long before being replace by the new shaped clio 197.
There 95% the same car...

Sick of my exhaust this year, had 2 replacement cat's (2nd hand) and running a magnex cat back system but its been playing up with daft noises for months.
Now when I take my foot off the pedal its making a loud flat noise, possibly vibrating off the car body.
So I plan to go back to...
I used a K&N 57i when I first got the car, made a lot of noise but engine bay gets to hot after a while and they dull.
I now use a BMC panel filter, almost identical to the ITG ones but a bit cheaper.
easy to clean, cotton guaze and a nice red gel edging.
My mates 106 gti when std ran the same as my Vts, once he done a bit of work (decat, ss sytem, remap and filter) and dyno'd at 148 bhp, it could put a good car length on my Vts. The 106 did seem to have different gearing to the saxo however, we seldom changed up at the same time so it wasnt...
I normally use a set of stilsons to remove rounded bolts, yes you'll have to buy some but there my all time fav tool. The more force you put on the more the grip increases
I've a 172 with 94K on the clock - at 80mph I get around 33-34 mpg, can get this over 36 if I drive around 60-70 but my normaly consumption is 33 on the average urban trip.
It does get a wee cain every now and then and runs ok otherwise for its age and milage.
