Watch for: Any signs of coolant loss or overheating (they do not take even a mild roasting without blowing the head gasket, and its expensive if you cant do it yourself). Also gearboxes are weak, make sure it aint noisy and that it aint jumping out of gear. Clutches can last well in excess of...
Anybody got a price list from Hill Power for Clio 16v, as its annoying not having prices on website. I think they must miss out on some business by having a poorish website, but then again get the impression he is that busy anyway, he would be daft to try attract more.
with car on decks, get a decent pry bar and use it between, bottom of hub carrier and wishbone, tight against ball joint, Give it a wiggle and look for movement, thats how mot tester check them, it defo sounds like one from your discription
rossa - no there isnt a gasket on thermostat housing, which I thought strange too, but it wasnt leaking without one, so must be meant that way. There several of these instant gaskets, just buy one thats remains pliable and states that it is suitable for water pumps or something similar...
your car not getting up to temp is probably your thermostat, it is in funny shaped housing bolted to end of cylinder head (one with all pipes going to it), just under your distributer. five torx bolts (t25 maybe) and whip it off, you might have to detach some hoses, but remember jubilee clips on...
buy it, you could even make money stripping it, if the car was too far gone in its own right. Hell dont worry about the head, put a 1.8 head on it, its the 2ltr bottom end that is hard to get
well, water pump and this clutch appeared with postman the day, so stuck them on the night. Clutch is a valeo one, which is, according to the box, is for a volvo 480 turbo, which should be sound as think they are 1.7 or 1.8 turbos. My old clutch isnt actually that bad, but i dont want to take...
Adams_16v, steve a or anybody else with 5uprated turbo clutch in a valver. Got hold of one from anyspares, valeo box badged as a volvo 480 turbo clutch (renault running gear). Its bloody cold up her the now which is why I am asking this, rather than go out to garage and lose a testicle in the...
BBPERFTUNING do them, tensioner and idle, one is £28 and the other £38, am pretty sure, check there website. I am doing this the now, but took my engine out, to make it easier, not especially difficult, but time consuming and fiddely. Can be done with engine in, but i did not fancy it as space...
If you want to flush out the block more effectively, than flushing from expansion tank to radiator bottom hose, there is a drain plug on the engine block, although its a bit of a joke getting to it. It is tight in under exhaust manifold on drivers side of engine at bottom of block, a couple of...
pretty sure its a reno only part, somewhere between 50-70 squid if i recall, never heard of an uprated one, but you can get uprated lower links (dogbone) from hillpower and possibly also K-tec
Since my engine is out and I am waiting for parts, thought I would be as well giving block etc a lick of paint. However I am unsure how to get a good finish for cam cover. Will be using engine laquer for block and head, but it doesnt really produce a good finish. Have a compressor and spray gun...
Oil pressure does go low once warmed up, and I aint sure these valve guages read consistantly. Do an oil change with correct grade and see, but wouldnt worry about it, as its the oil light that really matters! is she running sound otherwise?
Id avoid the ones will very long duration, as it means you will only be gaining at high revs, and low down pull and idle will be pish. Also with too much lift you might have to junk your hydraulic followers and invest in solid ones, which I would expect to be pricy. When you say uprate your cams...
there is a possible link here, the battery problem could actually be the gearbox earth strap, which is very prone to rotting. When this went of my mates car, the engine started earthing through the throttle cable, which made it heat up and partially melt, which was making it stick and act weird...
yep, me, you will have to take off radiator support panel and also remove drivers headlight. Then unbolt cooling fan from radiator, and pop radiator bottom hose to drain. With fan unbolted from radiator, you should be able to slide it out, leaving fan loosly where it is. Next undo loosed...
sh*t feel a bit of a spaz now, i have just clicked on that, pmitchell is infinicar, sorry about that one guys, there was me thinking I was giving sound advice - duh LOL
Yeah Id love a scottish meet, even though it would be a bit of a trek for me to anywhere, however my valver is in bits the now, and cause I am flat out at work I aint getting through it very quick. 26th is possible but would need to see how it goes, moving back to Glasgow when contract here runs...
do them as axle sets, cause if one is away the other wont be far behind, they are £20 odd each to buy, both front and rear ideally need a press to change, other than that not to bad or time consuming a job
pmitchell, wicked, wicked car. By the way I think infinicar.com are breaking one, in case you are needing anything for it. I spent a whole day once trying to persuade my mate to buy a LC, but he kept moaning it was too old, bloody tw*t bought a vectra (yawn) GSi V6 instead. He will regret it...
I got a white one, which just goes to show I bought the car on impulse and the strength of one mad test drive. Havent regretted it, althought do sometimes regret the colour. Where they available from the factory in yellow
Try using bleed screw on top of radiator to see if the system is as BenR says not fully filled, top it up when it is stone cold also, sometimes you can get air locks in the cooling system. Check wiring connectors to the thermostat, think there is three wiring block go to it.
Whip off the hose that comes round passenger side on subframe, just where it connects to the pipe that is attached to engine at front, which runs to pump. let fluid drain out, then reattach. Fill with new fluid, standard PAS fluid is fine, and to bleed spin wheel from lock to lock with engine...
they r all the same, in fact from a quick glance under the engine bay can anybody tell the 1.8 from the 2.0 without looking at engine plates, think only obviousl difference is the manifold
Adams_16v or anybody else, what is the exact 5gtt turbo uprated clutch to order, i.e. what is the order number from andyspares GSF, as really need to order right clutch first time, as in a rush to get things moving again, does it fit with no mods, is this the kit (i.e is release bearing etc there)
Bennyboy, not a difficult job, just need right size open ended spanner (think it might be 19mm) and a bit of strength. I didnt tackle it myself cause, didnt want to kill rack (you can see it twisting inprotest, although I am assured that it is rare for rack to be damaged in this way) and that it...
