I was thinking about this today....now the cup for arguments sake is £12,995 and the 172 is £14,995 (approx on both)... The cup is the same engine, except gadgets cut out, different wheels and change in suspension..for this it goes alittle quicker on paper...I like the cup and its colour...it...
I like the cup and the 172....i prefer having the confort options on the 172...because you cannot always go blasting around...It all comes down to personal choice...
Yes the Cup is fine without gadgets....I only wish they could of done something with the seats...I.e use something like the 172...
Cupsize....the Cup driver was trying...i caught up with him because we had a car in front of us both...the car in front moved out of the way and we were off...a section of the road was pretty much clear for 3 - 4 miles with the odd bunching of cars.....please stop prattling on!!

I really like your Williams, they were and still are a hot hatch motoring ICON....I look forward to reading your comparison between the williams and the 172...I have never driven a williams so i dont know!!
I agree it doesnt help the old clutch...I read the locked originalposting...and CUPSIZE was questioning whether I thought Cups are faster than 172s and of course CUPS are .3 of a second quicker to 60.. and generally faster they have to be quicker because of the power to weight ratio going...
Driving a 172 is sooo satisfying, especially when annoying BMW 316, 318 and 320 drivers come flying up behind on the motorway...dropping down to 4th and hurting forwards into the scenery leaving them behind is special...quite often I slow back down again to taunt them , then speed up again and...
Hello I started off this posting earlier this week...it was I whom beat a cup on a dual carriageway...I am disappointed that others have overall editorial rights over comments people post on here....I think my comments where valid... STOP SHUTTING DOWN POSTS!!!
Originally what I posted was...
You can get the 172 in cup blue....I had the choice between the cup and the 172...I went for the 172 for the climate control/air con, the leather seats, multi cd, Xenons and ABS.....Earlier this week I beat a Cup fair and square from 50 to 143 on a dual carriageway....it depends on the driver...
Going for Group N air filter element replacement this weekend...hope this helps the car breath easier...dont really want to go down the modding route...put off by superchps stuff...would go for cup upgrade items when the ycome out.
its a mk2...just went and weighed myself too...not 10st more like 10 1/2 stone...too much beer at xmas I think. Not sure what power to weight is..never good at the physics stuff. But I admire the cup...could of had one...but I laugh because some of them drive edgey as if they are urban warriors...
I would give it ago....I only race for the fun element...but the other guy didnt flash his lights or indicators..do you think optimax, octane booster and groupN element would make a difference?
I was running on nearly a full tank of SUL , spare wheel and Mcdonalds drink holders on floor :-) . I weight 10 stone, the fellow in the cup looked alittle portly around the middle !!!!
Dear cup owners
Today I toasted a Cup in my 172 and he was tryinh....the moral of this story is be good at changing gear.....I came up behind him in 5th doing 55.....I dropped to third as the traffic cleared on the A19 dual carriageway...and in third there wasnt much in it....4th went by at...
I think with SUL the performance on a private road from 100-125MPH is an absolute revalation...quicker than Optimax I think...going to conitnue with SUL for a couple of weeks..then go back over to Optimax...probably try it with octane booster as well along w ith group N replacement air filter...
Still running Superunleaded....will go back to Optimax this weekend...once i have run optimax for a couple of tank fulls i am going to try Octane booster which should be good since Optimax is 98+ or 98-99 octane fuel.
I try and stay away from the rev limiter area....but i did hit it on the last outing tonight and it was in the 7000 region where it normally is.
Going to figure out the Oil tempature thing as well...try it when the water temp says it is middle gauge and again fourty miles down the road to see...
Yes exactly that...the green light is coming on earlier after changing to SUL...in third using optimax it was up to 6750 before the green light....but it is still now down to 6250 in third and 5750 in second...I will post fourth gear change up tomorrow night after I have tried it.
In fact...
The car was warmed up....it has felt gradually slower on optimax over time and worse on the unleaded stuff....but it has whooosh......just been up and down the local dual carriageway and the change up light was the same...cannot tell you at what revs it changes up at in 4th...worried about...
