How many people are there from Norwich way? And how many from Yarmouth/Lowestoft way, I've lost track lol
Either is fine by me but seems pointless going to Yarmouth if alot of people are nearer Norwich :)
Just use one of those viscous fan spanners, did the job fine. Obviously not a few seconds but they're not as bad as everyone makes out. Mine was about 8quid from a land rover place :)
They do move together but there's a point where it looks like the top part "slides" across the pin rather than turning the lower part. Its such a small movement its hard to see unless you stare at it....I'm not going crazy lol!
Yeah, the video was taken with the boot pulled up, which is why its...
Yes in a nutshell. It doesn't matter where the wheels are pointing either it seems, its whenever I turn the wheel hard in either direction, then slowly turn in back that it has slack. Obviously when on the road at speed its as if its not connected for a split second when turning the other way...
The top bearing? Where's that? The one that the spline for the steering wheel goes through?
If I turn the wheel hard left, to take up any slack, and then slowly go right the wheels start to move, then stop for a bit, then start moving again. Just checked!
But that, tied with the lower part of...
Yeah done those, and rechecked they were tight the other day.
The play is on the column side I'm sure. If it was the rack, the column wouldn't have the dead spot when the wheel is turned.
Well heres a couple of videos, is it me or when turning back does the bit connected to the steering wheel seem to take up slack before the lower half turns in a linear movement? Its very noticeable at high speed.
On the second video it starts to turn, then "slows down" while slack is taken up...
Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco
I like the "Monaco blue" garage door Dan ;)
I was just going to ask you what spacers you're running, but you've answered that in the previous page :)
I was there but parked up all night due to the immense amount of police around pulling everyone, couldn't be bothered with the hassle lol!
I was parked in front of a blue dc5 :)
when I arrived the V6 was being "stolen", the alarm was going off!
Easiest & cheapest way is to get a used one in known good condition, with no split boots or play. Plenty of people breaking 1*2's on here. Not 100% if cups are slightly longer, have a quick search :)
Not sure, it could be a number of things making it sound like that, perhaps a ball joint. Does...
1cm of play if you pull the shaft effectively in and out? Thats alot when its still in situ.
If grease has gone everywhere then chances are the rubber boot has a split in it somewhere, and if the joint inside has run dry for a long period, it'll more than likely be shot.
Also, the wheels wont...

Dephaser makes it sound like a diesel for sure, mine sounds the same when its warmed up! cold start and its quiet (as quiet as Renaults are lol)
So much so that one of the marshalls at the last trackday asked if it was a diesel :( lol
So do we have an actual current price on the tools yet?? £180 seems alot, I had some before about 2 years ago and it was nearer £140....have they gone up that much?!
