Hold on, I thought you said in another thread you couldn't afford to run your car on v-power. Yet you can afford to spend £££ on a new exhaust (on a brand new car)?
Agreed, but if his policy is through greenlight that's only £50 for the day.
Re Petrol - I'd get through about 2 tanks of V-Power a day for getting to the track and back and doing 8 or so runs (with the 182). Admitedly, paying for Mr Palmer's new helicopter with one fill isn't much fun but it...
I got over 6k for mine 6 weeks ago. 36,000 miles, 05 plate, belts done and maintained regardless of expense. There are so many sheds out there that if you do have a properly good one, you can still get decent money.
+1
I won't comment on the 197 as I haven't driven it, but the 200 I tested (with cup packs) had an awesome ride - the damping was superb. Definitely high on my list of purchases in 2 years time if I don't go RWD.
Some good pics those. I love snetterton, must do it again when the 250 arrives.
How are the r888s holding up? I seem to remember at least 1 of them was borderline when I sold them to you!
I've recently sold mine for over 6k. It's low mileage, 05 plate, full SH and all belts done, pretty mint really. Sold in less than a day!
You get what you pay for.
JasonB - you're welcome! I've done a few track days in the past couple of years and generally on any one day, there will be 4 or 5 1*2s and, at the most, 1 or 2 197s. That's obviously a reflection on the price, and if you don't want the ultimate lap time I don't think you need to modify the car...
I've not driven the 197, and so I won't comment on it's qualities.
However, for my money, the 182 is a cracking track car out of the box. If you want to go for the fastest time possible, then of course you can strip it out and spend lots of money on it. If, however, you just want to have fun...
No, I wouldn't. I'd go and do a couple of track days and then decide what (additional) changes I wanted to do, if any - so in my case, that would be nothing!
In particular, I think you'd be bonkers to remove the air con - you get extremely hot in car on a track day in the summer, and the a/c...
I'm not convinced the OP is actually worried about the cost of it. From some of his other threads, I'm pretty sure he's not UK based and, for all we know, he might have unlimited resources to chuck at his 200. That being the case, you can solve pretty much anything by throwing enough money at...
4-5mm on the back will last you a good while yet!
55s will change the rolling diameter of the wheels and you probably should not run different diameters (45s on the front, 55s on the rear) on a 182 - would look pretty odd as well!
Having larger tyres generally gives you a better ride. I...
This is the way I approach it too. Don't do more than 20 minute stints, always do a full cool down lap (without touching the brakes on hot days). I find the tyres go off anyway after about 15/20 minutes anyway, regardless of what you are running. On a hot day, I also take half an hour breaks...
Yeah, I've done a few in the wet earlier in the year.
Silverstone, first track day (or racing) on the new GP circuit so very, very green, lift off over steer through maggots (I think) at about 80mph or so...
You won't need new rear discs even every 10 track days.
If you're getting a cheapo 172, you probably don't need insurance either - but as I say elsewhere, the cheapest I've ever found insurance was £50 - and that is using Greenlight.
Tuition - it's about £25 for 20 minutes/half an hour...
It's a false economy going for oe front brakes on a track car, imo. As soon as you get it on track, you'll get bad fade after a few laps. Brakes are the one thing that need upgrading on a standard 1*2 before track use.
If it were my car, I'd be going with renault oe if I wasn't taking it on track. You can, of course, go for pattern pads, just as you can get linglong and nangkang tyres in the correct size for a 1*2. Would you want to be relying on those tyres to hold on when you take a corner 10mph too fast for...
I totally agree with this.
I had a spare set of wheels with r888s on, ran them for a couple of track days, didn't have any more fun, felt like they were excessively wearing components (especially the clutch), sold them on and now back to doing track days on my normal PE2s. Much, much more...
Tried a 200, loved it, couldn't justify 17/18k on a clio (couldn't live with the uber boggo 200 cup, wanted a 200 with all the toys, cup pack etc). Will definitely be looking at one second hand in a couple of years time.
Mrs has started talking about kids, decided I needed a bigger car, so...
As other have said, there's no point having a track car and not tracking it - I highly recommend Bedford!
More generally, I don't understand this obsession on CS with having a 'track prepped' car. It's completely unnecessary, a 1*2 is very decent on track in completely standard form and it...
I wouldn't necessarily, but I wouldn't release the car to them until I had confirmation from the bank that cleared funds were in my account. Same with a bankers draft - and to be honest if they bought that amount of cash we'd both be going off to the bank and depositing it in my account...
Save the money, but if you absolutely have to "upgrade" from what is the best new hot hatch currently on sale (and I have a 250 on order!) why don't you move away from renault? 20kish will get you a very nice Z4M, or a 996 911...
Modding a 200 the way you seem to be thinking will void the...
