It's hard to say from what you have said TBH. Could you try and expand on what sort of noise it is and where it's coming from? It could possibly be the exhaust but it's hard to say from your description.
Best thing to do mate is give the throttle body a good clean up with some carb cleaner etc. I had this problem a couple of times with my 1.4 but after cleaning up the TB I didn't have any problems with it. It only seemed to happen when started from cold on mine and I haven't had it happen...
Found the post. It's this one HERE. You would be better to speak to him (Neal) on retro-renault.co.uk though as he's on there loads. I think it would definately be a lot cheaper than going to Hillpower (I think it was them anyway)
I would agree with dan that you should go to Chris H on retro-renault.co.uk as your in Glasgow - really knows his renaults well and will probably do any work for a good price.
I need to do mine on the 1.4 soon. I just got mine from the local motor fators for about £15, but I've been told by a few people since that non-genuine renault ones tend to need replaced after not too much time. I think hillpower do an uprated one, or I think theres some people on other forums...
Do you mean from a 1.2 energy to a 1.4 energy? If so I thought they would be identical in that sense, BUT I don't know that for sure so best to check. Ask over on RR as chris will probably know.
thanks mate, do you how much is the reconditione one from renault is, where you have to give them your old clutch as well? IIRC it's about £65 +VAT but I'm not totally sure.
It certainly can be a pain to change them. I've had to do one before and I spent a good hour or two trying to get the bolts off as I didn't have a hacksaw to cut the fcukers off. In the end I got a mate to come round and I just cut them off as I wasn't getting anywhere with a breaker bar. I...
yeah I think I'll go standard as the 5gtt one sounds like a bit of a pain unless your running more power. Does anyone know of anywhere to get the valeo clutches cheaper than renault? (other than ebay which I'm keeping an eye on)
Could someone also tell me how much a standard clutch is from...
The GTT one does sound good in that it's reliable, but I don't know what it would be like in the on/off sense. I won't be running any more power than standard but just want to make sure the clutch would be reliable enough and don't want to pay too much for it.
When you say it's on/off how...
Which ones would you recommend?
As it turns out that the renault ones are just valeo ones that's what I thinking of getting at the moment. I've also had the GSF R5GTT clutch recommended though, anyone used these before?
Can anyone tell me where I can get a valeo clutch without paying over...
I'm sure that when I got my 54mm hub from the scrappy that it was off a 1.2 I got it. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was off a 1.2 as I don't think they had any 1.4's at the time.
I you want more power (up to around 75bhp like the 1.2 16v) drop a 1.4 energy engine from a Mk1 in there. That would be a straight fit, cheap to buy and really no need to tell insurance if you were being naughty as they look identical. That would only need the engine put in and no arsing about...
It could be either mate, they are randomly either 52 or 54mm spacing. The only way of finding out is to go out there and measure it, but make sure you are accurate as 2mm isn't a lot and you could mis-measure it.
The ride and handling will definately be better on aftermarket shocks as well as springs. If you are only lowering it 35 mm I believe the standard shocks are OK though, anything over that and the standard shocks will struggle to cope and probably need replaced after a while anyway.
you'll have no problems whatsoever if you only go down 20 or 30mm mate. Mines is about 60 - 70mm down at the back and I don't even get scrubbing or anything with two people in the back. Mines will be raised soon though, it's just way too low on standard shocks and because the front doesn't...
You can get a clutch from Renault for about £65 but you have to exchange your old clutch to get it at that price. A new clutch would include a thrust bearing. Not sure on how much labour would be for fitting, but fitting a new clutch as well as a new bearing shouldn't bump up the labour costs...
