Apparently if you fire it towards the rear, the soundwaves have to travel further to reach your ears (because the waves reflect on the rear hatch), and therefore develop a deeper note by the time they arrive there. But as with all these things, its probably best to experiment.

Can you get away with any speakers that wont require a bit of cutting? I dont know about the mk2, but the mk1s have nice wedge of plastic that needs to go before any decent sized magnet will fit.

I installed a set of components last night, into mk1 v6, so I had remove the top dash section. Once that had been done it was nice and easy, I just mounted the new tweeters under the brackets that the original tweeters sat in, put a spot of glue between the tweeters and the bracket to hold them...
