That's what I'm assuming - whatever has been done to the wiring has been to cater for the removed steering wheel air bag. I haven't checked to see if the passenger air bag is still there but there's not an air bag on the driver's side. Does the passenger side need the resistor soldering in as...
The battery should have been fine - I'd just driven 150 miles and had stopped for fuel. Having said that, I have had a battery fail internally on a rally, sometimes it worked, others nothing. I'm carrying my jump starter, if the car fails to start again I'll throw it on and if it works then...
I'm assuming so as the airbag light wasn't coming on and it has an aftermarket wheel with no airbag. I've read the resistors can be soldered in or plugged in. I'm not sure what to look for, I'll take a look under the seat right now and retrieve half a bottle of red (which slipped under the seat...
1. Boot sensor checked out ok. Has to be a break somewhere else.
2. Didn't notice, I'll watch the lights if it happens again. I could hear a relay click under the dash, just as when the car does start properly.
3. Has to be, I'll have a wiggle, but a basic question - I've searched but can't find...
Just going through sorting the issues with my "new" 172. To date I've hit the following electrical problems:
- door open light on all the time, all sensors seem fine, nothing on CLIP,
- a week ago, the starter wouldn't turn over intermittently, but started in the end. I'm tempting fate, but that...
The NSF felt very imprecise so went for a change to Powerflex black bushes (only black are available now). Horror when the lower wishbone was removed - the previous bushes had worn away the chassis mounts with their metal outer - we're sure there should have been washers between the bush and the...
I've just driven over 100 miles in my 172, stopped to fill up with fuel and the engine won't turn over. This started happening for the first time on Friday, was fine before that.
The car has a cut out switch fitted which will kill all the electrical power. At first I thought I'd partially...
Cam belt, defuser, etc changed by Mike and the team at Rentech on Friday. She now seems a bit more frisky but moreover hopefully reliable. Nut had come off top on upper gearbox mount and the Ktec mount had ovalised so a standard mount now fitted. NS anti roll bar clamp had disappeared, will...
@McGherkin sorry I was packing up when you appeared, my sessions were done. Hope you enjoyed the other cars you had rides in. The Fiat 500 695 was fun. I set second fastest time to an instructor (two tenths) on my second run on the test they had round the back. I would have been quicker in my...
I haven't looked closely at the results as yet but seems I had a good lead over the MX5. The closest was the orange MKII Escort with a big engine, he was driving it very well. So many looked really quick, I felt really slow. Still, first time competing in the car, I'll get quicker.
Probably better here than with my introductory message. First Autosolo in the Clio today and took the overall win. A great start to the year in nice wet, slippery conditions. Getting some more practice in the car giving passenger rides in the Autosolo Experience at the Autosport Show next week...
Great thanks for dropping the wheels off today @McGherkin/Callum. I may be able to drive for the full two days without changing wheels now. Sorry you got soaked, hope you don't catch anything. I didn't know I was leading at lunch. Ended up taking FTD and the blue Clio 172 Cup was first in...
First Autosolo in the Clio today and took the overall win. A great start to the year in nice wet, slippery conditions. Getting some more practice in the car giving passenger rides in the Autosolo Experience at the Autosport Show next week, then the first round of the National Championship in...
By all means, but you won't see a lot, it looks very standard, as it is! Eibach springs, uprated engine and gearbox mounts, ITG air filter, front and rear strut braces, deep dish steering wheel, that's about it. Just as it should be as Autosolo is an entry level sport, you don't need a heavily...
I'm driving Thursday and Friday but others will be driving over the weekend - the Autosolo Experience is running every day from Thursday to Sunday inclusive.
I'm giving "Autosolo Experience" passenger rides Thursday and Friday in the National Championship winning black 172. The aim is to introduce more people to low cost motorsport. We're outside the main hall in the (empty) lorry car park, most people will walk past us from the car parks. Passenger...
@Filters the basic safety equipment in your shell should be applicable to many disciplines. But as you say, there's a major difference in spec between racing and rallying, and different categories within each. There's the new Motorsport News rally series, all run at race tracks. The Clio should...
Tell me more about the solenoid - the door open warnng light on my 172 is doing strange things, something is failing. The warning light is now on all the time but the interior lights work fine. I've checked all the obvious stuff but can't find anything wrong. Any leads on what the problem could...
@McGherkin just looked up how far Smeatharpe is away from you - stilll 68 miles so not just down the road. The alloys look great, should be the right offset as well. If there's any way I could oolect them before the Autosport Show that would be great. And I'll give you something for them as well.
Sorry @McGherkin , I took that the wrong way - I thought you meant close to the NEC, but you meant close to Ply-Muff :-) I'm at Smeatharpe on 9th Jan doing the first Autosolo of the year, and the first time driving the Clio on an event, a steep learning curve. If it's not far for you and you're...
Pauleds, I guess that was a demo Autosolo, I've never seen an Autosolo course so tight. It was more like an Autotest. Even the "Autosolo Ladder" I drove during Supercar Day at Castle Combe, using half the normal Autosolo area, was far more open. Impressive crowd, they seemed to enjoy your...
Now starts the tale of my newly acquired Clio 172. It will be used primarily for Autosolos, Sprints, Hillclimbs and smooth Targa Rallies.
This isn't new to the Clio - the car won the National BTRDA Autosolo Championship in 2015,plus the Cotswold and Welsh Autosolo Autosolo Championships...
Yes uninformed. You don't know my background. You didn't see the blades I had, maybe the design is different to those you've fitted many times before. Possibly you break them every time you fit them. Likewise I don't know you so I'm not criticising you.
Before questioning somebody's abilities...
Well everybody's entitled to their (uninformed) opinion, but I've been working on competition cars for over 40 years and have never encountered such a poor, over engineered design as on the Bosch wipers. As was proven, having to apply force to the flip up part risks breaking the thin plastic...
I'm even more confused now. With the ignition turned on, all the sensors work fine - I open a door/boot and the light goes on. Shut them and the light goes off, just as they should work.
The behaviour I saw earlier - light is on unless I turn on main beam has now gone. I'm now testing in the...
I've just purchased the BTRDA Autosolo Championship winning 172. I was looking at how to improve the 1275 Micra my kids and myself have been sharing for the last two years for Autosolos and this was the most economic route!
Inevitably the 172 is way quicker than the 75bhp Micra (134k miles ago)...
I've gone through all the similar threads and will check out the boot lock/hook further, but all seems fine there so far.
The interior light goes out when both front doors are closed, so thos sensors must be fine.
With the ignition turned on but engine not started, the light is on. When I turn...
