Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I assume your using a mk1 speedo output to go to the 172 ecu? maybe it's that not being compatable? can't you use a cup or ph1 sensor?
Right a bit of an update:
Got the new belt on, and running - however top end really tappy, and knocking noise from down below on overrun. buggar
got the cams out again, to find, all the lifters had locked solid! sorted that, back together again, tapping has gone but knocking is still there...
Alternator thing doesn't work much either, tried it, in theory it should work, however for example running the coil at 12v instead of 14.5v ish, cuts the power in the spark and therefore doesn't burn as good, also the injectors are affected. Not saying it doesn't give you anything, it's just...
nope. you can change the rack and column if you wish or put a link pipe in. tbh it would be better to have a custom made or flexi pipe in there instead. you have to do the pipe from the top and it aint easy! lol
Change the jumper on the omex first. moving the cps closer will increase the signal, and besides these cps sensors are calibrated at that distance from the flywheel, i know i investigated it for 6 months, with my dodgy starting itbs/omex conversion. the jumper cured it no problems.
use one of the old pipes and rebend it to go to the other side, with a bit of fluid in to keep it lubricated. and blank the steering colomn ones with silicone . works fine.
7 bhp would be nice , but i doubt it some how. mine certainly didn't feel like an extra 7 when i did it.
you have to use a 5pk850 because a 6 don't fit ( it rubs the plastic cam cover)
and don't be a girl, you don't need electric pwr steering, mine has a standard 172 pas rack blanked off...
mmmm, up to you if you run a std clutch, as it won't take much more than standard torque, mine was ruined with only 177 ftlbs.
The uprated organic clutch is only rated to 170 ftlbs and my paddle 212 ftlbs! so running more than 220 on a standard clutch is a big risk imho
