its easy , 4 bolts hold it on 16mm . you will need 2 hand brake cables (£50) the ABS sensors plug straight in to the old ones as do the brake pipes.
did this conversion a few months back took me an hour to do whole rear beam was £200 from matt blacks place, although i went a chose a good one as...
im into my second month with green stuff like them alot was running tar-ox before and these are better. they tend to fade with some ethusiasic driving but i just have to stomp the pendal harder. they were only £40+ vat from GSF
The superchips re-map is a decent solution for an owner who has a standard car, and doesnt want any warranty implications from a cut in piggy back or fettled ecu such as the r-sport.
Superchips do know what they are talking about and their remap for the 172 does give good results but it isnt...
denso iridium plugs will do the trick, splitfire are over rated and expensive imo the standard NGK plugs will be fine, plugs wont gain you that much power esp with the renault coil on plug crap
The standard ecu wont allow the engine to runoverly rich or lean, it will compensate and try to run stoichometric (14 air/ 1 fuel) as much as it can.
it has loads of default permeters built in and can run with no sensors attached ( not very well )
if your dialogies fails to run or wont install you need to download a DLL file called symcjit.dll and replace this in the main java system file
you can download it here
http://www.allinonecall.co.uk/jon/symcjit.dll
All you do is update the engine size with the dvla to 1998cc and the co2 emissions of the car it came from. mine is a renault extreme 16v engine size 1998cc .
Insurance isnt too bad £558 trade insurance
if your car means too much to you the swap it , mine means a lot to me, i love it more than...
I would recommend you get an insurance quote before you start.
If you are buying the engine etc from a breakers do a deal on your old kit
Edde is right in saying fit the MK1 parts but they are harder to get hold of and most are high milers. if you go for the mk2 172/182 route you will need to...
idle control valve is built into the throttle body unit. it is suppost to be a sealed unit but i have sucessfully cleaned them out by spraying liberal ammounts of carb cleaner into them and leaving over night with the butterfly jammed open.
The carbon fibre bonnet will not absorb heat, your open cone pipe cross air filter is sucking in hot air from the engine bay. on a hot daay i measured the ambient air temp in the engine bay at 65c after 20 mins warm up. i would try your old airbox with an ITG air filter first ( you can buy these...
with those kits your 172 will loose a small amount of power and pick up, but if you want and like the noise then i would go for either an ITG cone filter here - http://www.merlinmotorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=1615_1618&products_id=173 only £50
none of the above will offer a performance gain or value for money on a 172, your better off buying an ITG pannel filter which will cost you £40 and give similar gains to an enclosed induction kit
