The interior will be coming out of the clio for a good clean over the coming weeks and i've been considering moving the battery to the boot while it's out in order to free up space in the engine bay for a better induction kit.
I was wondering what exactly i would need to do this so i can gather...
Has anyone on here that isn't a trained mechanic ever tried changing a 172 cambelt and auxbelt themselves?
I would consider myself handy enough with a spanner when it comes to cars and was considering giving it a shot. I know theres quite a bit at stake and it is a hard job to do with the vvt...
It appears my rear drivers side shock is leaking slightly, and the car badly needs lowering, so I decided now is the best time to tackle my suspension..
Have about 400stg max to spend and looking for something aimed at everyday driving with the odd trackday in mind.
The two options i've been...
While changing my radiator the other day, i noticed my aux belt is frayed on the outer edge, furthest from the engine if you get me. The cambelt itself looks fine, and the writing printed on the belt is still intact which would suggest it is new enough. When I bought the car i had no history of...
Have been considering removing my air-con over the last week or so and looking for info as to what is needed.
Is it as simple as taking the compressor out and fitting a shorter aux belt? Or would i really need the cup alternator and bracket and cup PAS pipe? If so, why is that?
Started trying to change my radiator this morning after my old one burst, and have run into difficulty..
I've gotten as far as bumper and grill off.
1. Whats the best way to go about emptying the coolant out of the system? I've got both under engine covers and bumper off, and can't get at the...
Just wondering is there any websites you can order service parts for a clio off?
I remember back when I had a 106 gti, I used to get everything off 106parts, is there anything similar for clio's?
Basically my drivers side front sidelight is refusing to work. Replaced the bulb and fuse and still no joy, connections all look fine. Passenger side is working perfectly.
Any ideas??

After a lot of messing around in cars I wasn't really mad about because I didn't think I could insure a 172, I finally got a quote I was happy to pay and snapped up a bargain of a clio. Being a bargain it was a little rough around the edges to start with, but sure thats what gives it...
Since fitting my group n upper engine mount and powerflex dogbone bushes i've noticed that when driving the car, when i let off the accelerator and press the clutch to change gears the revs jump slightly until i let go of the clutch and accelerate again. Is this an early sign of clutch slip?
Have a set of powerflex dogbone mount bushes here to fit to my ph1 172 with the inline type mount. Just before i start, how do i get the old bushes out??
Just asking this more out of interest really. I remember reading somwhere a while back that R19 wishbones and ARB can be swapped over to a 1.8 16v clio to widen the track and make it close to williams spec. What I was wondering was if this can be done with say a 1.2 mk1 clio? Are all subframes...
Am 50/50 on refurbing my wheels in anthracite or black. Was originally all set on rover stone grey, but it seems there are less clios with black wheels lately. Also it works out a lot cheaper to do them in gloss or satin black than anthracite;)
Looking for pics of silver ph1's on black wheels...
I've ordered a group n upper engine mount and powerflex dogbone mount bushes from k-tec and am expecting them hopefully tomorrow at some stage. Plan on fitting them myself, but just want to clear a few things up first..
For the upper engine mount, i loosen the 3 bolts where it connects to the...
My rear wheel bearing is fairly f*cked, to the stage where my rear wheel is wobbling quite a bit. I ordered a set of rear discs with bearings off k-tec but they won't be here til next week some time, so was wondering will I be ok to drive for a while, or am I likely to wreck the hub?
Hi guys, just looking for opinions as to how a ph1 172 might look on clio extreme wheels, or pics if anyone has anything similar?
These wheels to be exact...
Just looking for opinions on what might be causing these problems.
When taking off from stopped in first gear, the whole car judders slightly in low revs until the car is moving and the engine is at about 2500 rpm. My old polo gti used to do this, but the clutch pedal was very creaky and...
I know how to fit the upper engine mount, that seems to be a doddle. But has anyone here fitted an upper gearbox mount? And anyone care to give some advice as to how they done it?
Have noticed a whining sound coming, i think, from the back of the clio for the last while and i assumed it was a wheel bearing on the way out. a friend of mine was driving behind me the other day and said one of the wheels was very wobbly, i never asked which one, but he said i need to get the...
i've just taken my engine cover off because of the usual rattle problems, but now that its off i see the coilpack is fairly exposed to any water that might creep in. is it ok to leave it off or am i best to just endure the rattle??
I've noticed under heavy acceleration in first gear and high up the rev range in 2nd gear that there is a loud enough knocking coming from under the front of the car. It doesnt feel jumpy as if an engine mount might be gone, but there is a slight wobble when taking off slowly from standstill...
Got up early today to do an oil change on the clio and ended up washing and polishing it aswel. Felt the need to take some pics to show off my work afterwards:thumbsup
Comments welcome as always
Finally got pics of my new car, my first clio, a ph1 172:)
Bodywork is nothing to shout home about, but its mechanically perfect, and i couldnt be happier with it. Done a 350 mile round trip in it the day after collecting it and it didnt once skip a beat. Showed up a few bigger yokes aswel...
Hi everyone, just put a deposit on a 2001 reg clio 172 this evening so thought i'd join up here to get info and what not on them:)
Have owned a fair few fast(ish) cars before now, but i've wanted a 172 since i first saw ianeire's first clio back in june 07. Cant believe i'm actually getting one...
