sorry to hijack but how do you go about cleaning the throttle body? i've got a 172 which seems to do the same thing & would like to see if there was a way of fixing/reducing it without paying a garage £100s
does replacing it actually work? most of the sound seems to come from the plastic vibrating so I'm guessing the same thing would happen with a new one?
what kind of warranty did he say you have?? if its a third party warranty you'll struggle to get any money out of them if its had major work done like an engine change.
didn't you notice the chalk marks when you bought it or get it checked over by a mechanic? if he said you had a warranty...
i'm not sure how much it will cost from renault but the new style includes a new loom aswell so i'm guessing it would be more expensive than the TDC on its own. From what I've read theres no point in replacing it unless you are going to use the newer type so it might be worth giving the old one...
i'm pretty sure the crank/tdc sensor only affects the initial firing/starting of the engine so providing your's starts first time I wouldn't bother... it seems like there is no way of preventing the spluttering
make sure you get the new style, blue TDC sensor... it's a common fault on the 172 & if you change it with one of the old style then its unlikely you'll fix the problem or at least it will happen again in the future...
is there an obvious way of telling if the cambelts not been fitted properly then? i had mine done by a Jag mechanic within weeks of buying the car so i wouldn't necessarily notice a lack of power or are you talking about a significant amount?
what type of oil do you all use?
also, would you trust kwikfit to change it for you as they have quoted £40 for oil & filter change and from what i can see it'll probably cost me more to do it myself anyway?
Does anyone have a list of the service intervals for a mk2 172 & what they involve, cost etc?
Mines done about 68000 & its not been running particularly smoothly for a while & would like to get it serviced.
Would you pay for Renault/garage to do it or is it worth trying to do it yourself...
how would you know if it was the throttle body?? where is it etc? the sames been happening to mine for a while now, cleaned the TDC sensor & it seemed to fix the problem for a while but now its back again after only a couple of weeks - does this just mean I need to replace it with the new blue...
it will most likely be the earth connection as it has happened on every clio I've ever known... as above check fuses, then try cleaning up the connections but before you go & buy a new one run a wire directly to the battery & another to an earth to check if it works.
heater resistor/rheostat or the wire has burnt itself out, either way shouldn't cost anywhere near the £264 renault have quoted for a new motor which won't fix the problem anyway.
the diagnostic fee is a complete con - its the warranty peoples way of trying to stop you putting a claim in.... thats why i would be particularly careful with anything electrical - if it goes wrong you might be liable for "diagnosis" & theres still no guarantee the fault will count as valid...
if he does offer you a warranty make sure its the gold/top one & check to see what it covers... i got 6 months when i bought mine last year but it doesn't cover you for diagnosis & will only pay up to a certain hourly rate - which rules out renault & the majority of garages. To fix the auto...
not sure if its normal but if i have someone in the passenger seat when they get out of the car theres a creaking sound coming from the round the wheel. I'm pretty sure it seems to ride a lot more bumpy when driving although i can't really tell whether its just that i'm not used to riding with...
the resistor is normally attached directly to the blower- you can access it by removing the scuttle panel... try running the blower directly from the battery or another power source to check that hasn't blown... check the wires connecting to the resistor haven't burnt out...check the fuse?... if...
when i go to lock the car with the key fob it keeps making a strange beep before the normal locking sound... i'm pretty sure i've read it does this for a number of reasons - a door or window open etc. but can't find anything obviously wrong & its only justed started doing it.
any ideas?
thanks
i think your mechanics wrong...normally you can get at it from under the scuttle tray (probably needing to remove the wipers) - i've never done it on a 172/182 but its not normally that difficult a job. I'd imagine parts & labour would be pretty steep from renault so would try ebay or the...
