Yep, even when I set the DNS to be Googles on the machine (we couldn't do it on the router), we STILL had issues with HTTP (port 80) connections just failing!
Really bizzare router.
Now with Asus we have 0 problems, even running custom firmware :].
Buy a decent router, even the BT HomeHub is shite!
We were on the Homehub 3 (iirc) around 2 years ago, kept losing DNS even if we used Googles, and then allowed no more HTTP connections. We moved to an Asus router and had no issues since. Though, we did move recently, and gave the new HH4 (i...
As above, it's Openreach which are utterly useless, BT were partially helpful for us, but mostly useless too.
Now we have the service, no issues since :].
You were lucky then :)
When I first started 5 or so years ago the dye wasn't so good then, went with a premixed Red coloured coolant and clear tubing, made a right old mess after a few months!
As you say, probably better now, but screw cleaning everything that thoroughly everytime you wanna...
EXACTLY this, no matter what colour it is, it will separate and clog stuff up, I guarantee you have it clogging up your blocks now also.
If you want pretty colours, get tubing to do it :]
Get it rebuilt over buying a second-hand one, you don't know what state the second-hand one will be in until you get it all in, and may have wasted a lot of money doing so!
If you cannot find the tracking number to prove he's received it, then I'd say you're stuffed. He's likely just waiting for the end of the dispute to escalate it, though if you've had the money back he may have cancelled the dispute? I'd doubt it though tbh.
Did you not send him the tracking...
I'd unplug it, reboot, plug it back in, see where you are then with all the above tests (disk management, device manager etc) if nothing happens when you plug it in again.
No, but it will install drivers for the USB drive when you plug it in :)
I'd restart it if you haven't already, otherwise there's something else funky that's going on.
Have you rebooted the Vista machine since initially plugging the device in? Sometimes it'll require a reboot for driver installs to finish, so may help!
I don't see any reason for it to not work then tbh, try a different USB port, or go to the XP machine, and copy the software across to a different USB drive.
Uh, there's no such thing as a drive format for XP (as far as I'm aware), unless the drive has some custom partition type that was accessible via software on the XP machine?
Generally it'd be FAT16/FAT32, or possibly NTFS (but usually one of the former).
If it's not showing up in vista, try...
Fred can be difficult to get through to at times as he's working, but I'd keep trying. He'll frequent here less now if at all as he said he was giving up the forum for various reasons.
I struggled to read the walls of text, so just read the other comments.
Sadly, that garage/recovery/person has NO clue what they're on about, the engine is belt driven, not chain driven, and also it wouldn't start if it was knackered.
Haha :]
Bulbs do make a lot of difference though tbh, especially if you do any night driving! Just makes it feel a bit nicer to drive I guess. Luckily I dont need to change them in mine as they're already white!
