So couple of tiny jobs on WZD this morning that i wanted to do.
Firstly was fit new 12.9 hardware to the TCAs. I had previously zinc coated these and ever since I've been a bit twitchy about hydrogen embrittlement.
Deep down I'm sure they were fine but i couldn't shake it from my doubts and you...
Both cars were running AEM units. I agree a lot can be altered with a proper ECU that has a lot of flexibility.
However its the big torque delivery which i think i didn't like in the car. Oddly the sound has a lot to do with what i didn't like so much either.
Thank you so much again for the...
I think as someone else said, they maybe have a teething issue or two and cannot spanner themselves and get despondent with them.
I loved the supercharger on my Mini GP, gobs of power and really responsive. Its about the only thing i liked about the car.
The cars a daily driver so ITBS/Carbs etc are out. They have no cold start qualities and that's no good to me. You also lose the cruise control (not the end of the world, granted) and also requires a standlone PCM as the OEM PCM cant control them with the swap to cable throttle and loss of MAP...
Being honest, if I was 20 again, chances are I’d have got out of either one of those cars like a giddy teenager and wouldn’t have been able to empty my wallet fast enough.
I’m also aware that I’m probably a little spoilt with regards to my previous experience in turbo cars. However I’ve tried...
Weight and complexity pointless, still adds torque where I've decided i don't want it.
What it needs is a proper ECU but that would cost more than the turbo kit in the first place lol
Oh mate its a fantastic party piece. If you strap an unsuspecting mate in the passenger seat of a 300bhp turbocharged Clio, they're going to write off their underpants if they're usually used to taking the bus. Also after seeing what can be done, the reliability of a sub 280bhp car didn't faze...
Turbo Testing
As said previously i was hoping to drive some turbocharged Clios this morning and thanks to some very generous owners, i was allowed a go in a pair of them.
Car 1)
This was a low boost 182 setup running approx. 240bhp on stock engine & gearbox. (7psi)
Boost controlled to limit...
Honestly, im not 100% sure.
Full spanner check on the front end, no witness marks, removed and refitted some parts and done everything up double tight. Haha.
Im suspecting the ARB which im about to change the bushes shortly.
Have to say another huge thanks to Alex @ AW Motorworks for fitting a pair of brand new driveshafts and poly boots in WZD this morning... and yet more gearbox oil. Its 5th lot of oil in the last 9 months Haha. Needless to say the gearbox oil was a clean as it went in.
I had a noise that i...
Driving a couple of Clio Turbos in the morning both low and high boost variants.
I'd also like to drive an RS2 powered car if anyone has one local to Essex that they would be kind enough to let me experience?
Yes, i've got 4 new anthracite Trophy caps brand new from RPD. Ive done the opposite and was intending on returning them to RPD to swap for silver.
If yours are brand new genuine Renault items then im happy to swap if that helps you out too :)
I haven't ruled it out, but in reality its probably a £650 spend on some cams, plus install plus mapping. You wont see any change out of a grand i imagine and i'll be lucky to see 10bhp? 15 tops?
Would that even be felt on the road at anywhere below 6k rpm?
Genuinely im guessing here and...
A lot!!
230bhp NA will be made using a hell of a lot of RPM and we all know a motors life expectancy gets rapidly shorter the further you go above the design ceiling for RPM.
230bhp turbocharged is produced at a lowly 7psi from a tiny turbocharger, rods hardware is subjected to a lot less...
I can easily do that with the isofix points and already have some plans to that effect. The cage would only be a rear cage so no chance of hitting it as it would be behind me .:)
This is the draw of an RS2 but obviously then the apparent dark art of timing and mapping a motor to make it work.
At the moment it has an ITG Maxogen, some matched inlets and will have either an OEM cat or decat. Do I just add some group N timing and mapping and call it a day? 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks for all your genuinely appreciated input guys, it’s all valid and I appreciate you taking to time to share your thoughts and expeo
Like i say, I’m not looking for monster bhp, I’ve been there and done that.
But I would like to try and explore and hopefully experience all avenues first...
So, I now it’s late but just had to post lol.
I’m just home having had a tear up through the empty country lanes in the 182 and man it’s good to drive. It’s absolutely pin sharp, changes direction like a stabbed rat, damping is bang on and just feels mega To wring out.
The speed you can carry...
Cheers Ash,
If the cage goes in then yes, my red Schroths will go in till I can sort a black set. But the 3 point belts will stay as that's what i'll use day to day.
Those braces fit on the rear turrets which is both too low and too far back for my liking.
Why would it look like something from Halfords? I don't think Halfords sell cages?
It probably could be done but ive neither the time, funds or inclination to want to lol. Money no object id drop a supercharged or ITB'd K20 in it on a Syvecs.
I know its a standing joke, but its just my daily driver and needs to remain somewhat budget/user friendly.
Im lucky enough to have...
