Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

The most important bit everyone wants to know though. How does it sound? Once home I adjusted the tips back to the bumper line. I just love how purposeful it looks now. 🙂

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

So, finally after a few weeks wait, my new exhaust system arrived. Yes I weighed up my options and seriously considered going back to Matt at Simpson’s. However when I started to really dive into it, I was looking at the thick end of £1300 After numerous conversations and videos sent by some...

    Engine building, timing, upgrades etc

Ah, not a melted piston then, kinda expands on the cal issue somewhat. I was going off the basis of a melted piston. Are there any signs of heat on the remnants of the piston or of the cylinder walls? Without analysing the components it’s tough to say, what the failure mode was. Pistons...

    Values of Nice Examples increasing

Same, only bought it as it had 8k miles on it and i knew the owner and its history. It was basically a brand new car in a rare colour. It looks good in perfect sunshine. But the other 362 days a year it looks like dirty rusty water :D

Infernal orange will be the next to go through the roof. Except mine because its has a zillion miles on it :D

    Engine building, timing, upgrades etc

You have increased the CR with the 197 pistons which would have made it more fuel/timing sensitive. If it was previously mapped right on the limits of PI then you will have crossed that line with the increase in compression. But surely they would have explained this to you when it was there? You...

    Engine building, timing, upgrades etc

Sounds like its been subjected to some pretty heavy pre-ignition, which as suspected is more than likely a cal issue. If that be the previous cal or the ktec cal, who knows, but pistons dont melt due to a mechanical failure. Theyre a result, not a cause. I too would be interested to see the...

    Matt's Racing Blue 182

Tidy little car. Already looks better for a the few subtle bits youve done. Congrats :)

    Engine building, timing, upgrades etc

Not saying its Ktecs fault, but that 4/5 hour drive "might" have saved you a £1000?

Cal, Calibration. No I’m saying I’d put money on it that It wasn’t your build.

    Engine building, timing, upgrades etc

99.9% that’s a cal issue. Generally a fresh build will fail within 20 minutes of its due to a build error in my experience. Maybe 25 min if you really babied it. Sorry to hear about your agro, hope you get it sorted.

Fantastic pics Graham, glad to see you getting some proper enjoyment from it after all your hard work :)

    Engine building, timing, upgrades etc

How many miles had it done before being subjected to full load mapping?
  15. frayz

Just another M3, this time with a V8.

To be fair, i think its pretty well priced considering it has the thick end of £15k of dampers, brakes and wheels hanging off it.

    Jekyll's RB182 Progress Thread

Still looks great despite the odd battle scar mate. Just shows she’s used and loved. Quality update as usual, shame you couldn’t do the diff just yet. But it’s more than understandable to need to hold off for now. It will feel so nice when that fresh box goes in. When the wheels get refreshed...

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

Not bad. But I’m back in the realms of dicking about hunting for wheels nobody stocks or can supply. Simply not worth the agro for a non forged wheel.

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

Whilst i agree with almost everything you've said there. I drive it every single day and every day i feel the weight of the 2118s with every single steering input. They look cool but you really do notice it and you can feel how much harder the damper is having to work to control them. Maybe it...

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

Personally i think they look cool, but the weight is what bothers me. Correct 20kg of unsprung mass is alot. But its the rotating mass i think is the biggest gain. Of the two i think the ATS would suit the car better but i love the RPF1s too. I can only find a pic of 1 clio on RPF1s and its on...

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

So hard to decide so wrote em all down :D Agree the ATS look superb and lots of the guys run them at the Ring, also used for the Fiesta ST cup. Just convincing myself to spend out on a 15kg weight loss when i could easily have a 20kg weight loss. I thought writing it down would provide some...

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

More than anything this is just for fun and may be of interest to anyone doing similar: So im still digging for wheels which are both lighter than the 2118s (not hard) and that i actually like the look of. I've tried really hard and still am to get a sensible price for a set of forged JDM...

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

So I’ve done something either pretty great or pretty stupid tonight. Ive only gone and bought a set of wheels that I would otherwise usually describe as ugly and fucked... but have potential. I must be mad. 😅 But... they’re made of the good stuff. 😏👌🏼
