Why do open cone filters harm mass air sensors?

Would you be implying this issue only occurs on the "hot wire" type sensors and not the "vane" type?

Why do open cone filters harm mass air sensors?

Oh dear. Forgot this section was only for Clios :o Mostly heard this on the internet (particular forum) I could accept that a friend's Mk 6 Zetec S (40k, FFSH, in-warranty) needing a new MAF after 4k miles on a pipercross open cone was just unlucky. I can accept sometimes things just fail...

    insurance companies

With pretty much everything in my favour (no mods, paid in one go, great postcode, 2 yr ncb, no accidents or claims, no points/convictions, use of other cars, limited mileage, 3 named drivers) I paid £1450 at 19 years of age in march last year for a FF 182 fully comp. It would have been £1320...

Why do open cone filters harm mass air sensors?

As far as common knowledge is aware, induction kits/open cone filters lead to mass air flow sensors breaking, or at least failing far sooner than what would usually be expected. 1) Why. What is different, as far as a mass air sensor is concerned, about the air that comes through a cone filter...

    bent subframe

It may or may not be visible, in short. Things to consider: My subframe (from hitting a kerb) looked warped rather than "bent." It looked fine in an iPhone picture but clearly wasn't. The "tabs" that are welded on to attach the wishbone/A-arm are for more susceptable to bending than the actual...

My Experience: Clio 182 vs ST170

+1 Good write up, a lot of fact and little opinion in there.

    Seat removal and fitting

That's only for fitting seats without airbags in order to stop the "airbag" light coming on the dash. E.g. when people fit Recaro Trendlines from a Trophy or selected V6/182. AFAIK. Whilst the rear seats have a torx head, they also have a normal rectangular head on the outside. General...

Front end meets hare. Both lose.

The skoda splitter is made from such soft plastic it'd literally have acted as a big sponge and saved the hare :p

Oh what d'ya know it's the car with the reverse number plates again! I'm shocked it didn't sell for the £3200 (IIRC) he was asking last time...

Bet this guy just sh@t himself

Video is about a million miles away from the average CS "I hit some oil on a round about gave it a dab of oppo and saved it but then the curb actually moved 1m due to a landslide and therefore gave me +30 degrees of camber." Enjoyable to watch the save though.

Looking at buying a 182.....few questions?

One thing that completely passed me by when buying a 182 quite young was that for the first time ever I was spending proper amounts of money and it was "only" a 5 ish year old car (not the 10 year old, poverty spec, rusty rear arches, broken key fob, poverty engined fiesta that is all you can...

Looking at buying a 182.....few questions?

Yes, yes you would get shunned by the majority of CS for putting a trophy on coilovers :p You're paying a huuuge premium for a trophy then removing pretty much the main thing that makes it special. If you want a red clio that's lowered, save yourself 3k and get a flamer? If you think a trophy...

    My Clio 182

Doesn't matter what you paid as long as you're happy :) Also prices vary massively. Belts done or not is literally worth £500. Optional Recaros would add a fair whack I'd imagine (if the seller realises their 2nd hand value of course!) Depending on how much of a knobhead the dealer is add...

    Advice Needed

The "clio sport" is only available in a 1.2L IIRC so I'd definitely by buying a "Renaultsport Clio" if I were you :p An absolute TON of info available in the above links!

    biting the bullet?

BG with silver stickers will stand out more, though it will also look more Ph1 ish i.e. dated. Bear in mind Black Gold is a reasonably difficult colour to spray well as you can't buy it from Renault (you can only get touch up pens) or Halfords etc & will have to have it mixed. You're right...

    INFERNO 182 CUP 2005 only 50K

Really?! I'd always assumed it had an RS steering wheel since the 172 cup had an RS steering wheel. That looks horrid.

    INFERNO 182 CUP 2005 only 50K

Third out of three cups I've seen this week with a non-sport steering wheel - I think it looks horribly cheap in an RS.

    Boring out an F4R (2.2L)?

This forum (or just me) needs a mod called "live topic" badly :p Where big money is involved you'd find unswept volume whilst you're designing the thing on CAD, it's literally 2 or 3 clicks through a menu. Need a bit more to work out compression ratio. Chip has already listed it all tbh over...

    Boring out an F4R (2.2L)?

Using a slightly different way of writing the area of a circle (remember pi * r^2) that just so happens to cancel out the fact you've got a 4 cylinder engine (thus that exact equation won't work for anything other than a 4 pot) Nope (assuming you haven't changed the crankshaft) as stroke is...

    New Front Splitter...

For £11.34 or whatever they are and a nice clean look you really can't go wrong with the Fabia vRS. For info though people also fit: * Clio Cup splitter (around £120 IIRC and looks nigh on identical to the Fabia one except the face is curved not flat and it's glossy not matt) * Mk 1 Megane...

    Non-sport lowering queries

One thing you can do (serious) is get a skoda splitter which alone will make it look (front front angles obviously) 20mm lower. My 182 looked too high at the front without a splitter, fit an £11 fabia vRS one and it instantly looked a million times better.

Monster stickers on Clios - Why?

Interesting to hear. I guess they do a bit more stateside and the less mainstream stuff like stunt driving or Dakar as you say. I understand showing the appreciation, I quite liked the Elf sticker on the back window of my 182 to remind me of the motorsport pedigree behind the brand of car I'd...

Monster stickers on Clios - Why?

But they're not though?!?!?! As far as I and google images can tell it's literally only Ken Block (Fiesta WRC, 2008 Impreza, blob eye Impreza) and a Nascar or two? No-one ever covered a Renault with big blue/yellow Elf stickers, a Ford with red/blue Gulf, a Citroen with Red Bull stickers...

    Non-Sports In Here..

I really, really like that. Maybe not the exhaust so much but the combination of the turinis, a bit of lowering, wrapped roof and an interesting colour make it look pretty smart IMO. My favourite thing about the non-sports is all the colour variations they come in. That sparkly blue colour...

Monster stickers on Clios - Why?

Would someone who has/who's friends have done it please actually give me some reasons as to: 1) Why sticker your car with brands? 2) Why is it ALWAYS Monster? (you never see Rowntrees or Robinsons, Red Bull or JD) 3) Why does it always seem to get done to Clios? Because as far as I can make...

    182 ''Replica'', Keyline, Broxburn

Haha, not a clue how I missed your response to this :s And I'm sorry to be negative but if you think a 182 has 182 BHP then I'm afraid your car definitely will not have the 195 BHP you think it has... Nevertheless, must be fun suprising a few with the standard looks. Mechanically speaking, have...

    Gordini stripes dimensions?

The wheel comment was aimed at 16" vs 17". The 17s look silly, mess up ride height, ruin arch gap, make your speedometer inaccurate, makes the discs/drums look very pathetic, reveal it's only a 1.2 and not at all fast, wear tyres out faster, make the car "skit-ish" over bumps and most probably...

    Gordini stripes dimensions?

One word: Juxtaposition: Being constructive: * I like the old-skool intentions rather than the generic "make my 1.2 look like a 172" route.t * Less is more. There's a black 172 near me/on here with bright orange bullets & wing mirrors, it looks great. Striking, gets noticed, not over the...
