So I’ve finally finished rebuilding the car to a state where it can be used. I’ve got a test day tomorrow at Kames. Should let me see how it’s handling after the rebuild.

Yeah but your roll centre and centre of gravity will still be the same relative to each other. So no really change on the things that effect body roll.
Only way to combat it is.
Stiffer springs
ARB’s as you have mentioned
Roll centre kit.
Your choices will need to be made depending on what...
Smaller wheels won’t really affect body roll. But unless you are doing gravel rally I would avoid the 15” speed lines. They are very heavy. TD1.2s are good, pretty light and decent price. Oz super / ultraleggeras are great but £800 a set.

Might be some of that. But I’ve got A LOT of experience with rust. And it’s usually down to two things.
1) water / mud traps. Side skirts, sills and rear arches are bad for this on most cars.
2) poor protection. Cheap cars with thin paint and underbody protection.
The clios aren’t bad for...
Second that.
So if the garage are replacing the top mounts make sure the know what they are doing.
I think the PMS ones don’t really “knock”. They can get stiff if the bearings dry out but I believe the bearing can be replaced.

Have a google for steering rack refurbishment.
Found a few local to me. £120 quoted estimate by one of them.
It’s seals bushes and a lick of paint. Not that expensive.

Looks like it has PMS top mounts and brace bar. Unless they are worn I wouldn’t be replacing them. Have the garage said what parts they will be using?
Gearbox bolt isn’t a biggy. Clutch sounds like it will need changed if it is really heavy. A lot of them are though and soldier on so your...
A few issues to deal with.
1) I had a few lacquer runs and dry spots. I’m going to flat then back with some 600-1000 grit and might have to do another lacquer coat.
2) I gave my brother the wheels to fit the tyres. I’m glad I don’t this before getting them perfect. Apparently they were a pig...
Got round to painting the wheels tonight.
The mini is on temp wheels from mini clio. Not driving it on these. Just to let me move it in and out the unit.
I’ve decided to paint up a set of turinis I had as well. Will sell these on if they come out decent.

I got used to it. As a driver it’s fine. My wife moaned like f**k but then I would blame the car for that. [emoji23]

It reality it doesn’t. But you can’t deny it has an impact on some people’s perception (including mine) as a bit of a backwards step. A bit like Americans moaning about a “6 cylinder” which is reality has more power than a V8 they would be happy with. [emoji23]
One thing you can’t deny is the...
I’ve never tried the mk8 but probably should. I miss my ST but probably rose tinted glasses. Remember getting home first night, lying in bed and feeling my back tighten up. The ride is that hard. That was a later 2016 one as well.
I’ve been put off the new one mainly because A) it’s a 3...
Only thing I ever done to my ST was a remap. Cost £270 am with a dyno proven 227bhp and 270ftlb torque.
Even with that the standard Intercooler coped fine. Also think the standard shift on these are perfect. Never tried a quick shift.

Put it on some standard 182 cup wheels tonight. Actually quite liking these. They have way better tyres already on over the turinis I had. Drives 100 times better.

Pretty much. I won’t be putting a pop top on that’s too much money. But this was quite cheap and as I said the barn doors were crusty. If they were in good nick I might have kept them.

But looking over the black cullens on the isle of sky from the top of Applecross just ain’t cool with barn doors. Sitting on your bumper tailgate 6 for above however. [emoji106]

There are a few reasons people do this.
First one is they are generally regarded as better looking. More of a person car and less of and less of a builders van.
They also give some shelter / extra outdoor space. Some people fit a “rear kitchen” and you can cook outside with the tailgate...
Tailgate fitted today. Quite a big job but I do like a bit of metal work and welding.
Next I need to cut the windows in and then it’s time to prep it and paint it.

Exactly. Longer without any preparation can do damage. 2 years will be ok but maybe take some precaution with a good service and a set of belts sooner than the service schedule says.

So oil pressure and temp gauges tell lies?
Ever left a car for a few years and had the alternator burn the belt off on start up? Oil used in an engine collects other s**t. Left lying it can cause corrosion internally (although longer terms than 2 years). Crispy cam belts from being left in a...
I’m not a fan of car covers for outdoors. In a garage to keep the dust off. Outsdoors they just seem to trap damp and inevitably blow around and potentially off. If you are going to get one got something car specific that fits well and doesn’t touch the ground.

Well obviously using it would be better. But disagree. Can you imagine the state of belts, fluids, brakes unused constantly for many years? Each to their own but I’ve owned a few classics that get laid up for 6 months at a time through the winter and will always start them once a month if I can...
Cool. Check it’s been started regularly. Should be pretty decent if it’s been started and even run up and down the drive.
