Fitted a new water pump while it was all apart.
Car is back together now. Will give it a wash at the weekend and take some pictures.
Also had a go at refurbishing the headlights. There was some sticky mess on the drivers side (from a European trip maybe?)
I got most of it off. Still a...
Engine rebuilds are expensive. And in reality you don’t know what the cost is until you take it apart and inspect / measure everything. The crank might be fine with just a polish. It might need a regrind and some “undersized” bearings.
What I would want to be absolutely sure of is that the...
To daily drive it would have to be the 182.
Valver would be a nice as a modern classic to take to car shows and on Sunday drives.

Low milage, not used at all or used for a few thousand miles a year in good weather is a well trodden path on even established classics. I bought a 1990 Mini Cooper RSP (a pretty special mini of you know them). Bought it for strong money. Kept it for 4 years putting less than £1000 into it over...
I would agree with that.
I actually just bought a road going 182 for a wee project so can make a better comparison now. What is very obvious that similar size / similar power cars they have totally different character. The clio is definitely a bit yobbish / chav. Great drive though. The mini...
Made a good start on the mechanicals of this last night.
Just a full service plus a supercharger service.
Also the aircon isn’t working but that’s because the radiator fan is siezed.
Should all be going back together today or tomorrow. Then back to the garage in Airdrie to get the...
Take your pic then. It won’t be 100% but I’m sure you can get a close match.
https://www.ralcolor.com
RAL codes are just a universal way of coding paint colours used in powder coat as well as stuff like metal paints like rustoleum etc. But they aren’t automotive paint codes that manufacturers...
I don’t think it’s a flat colour (which is what RAL codes are).
If you want it properly original a lot of wheel restore places will powder coat then do a traditional wet paint on top in the correct colour.
This website is handy for getting the correct paint codes...
I’ve been going a bit mental with projects recently. Normal life for me would normally be working away from home for 2-3 days a week and then racing in sprints and hillclimbs once or twice a month. Now I’ve been working from home for 3 months and I’m unlikely to have to travel between Scotland...
You could get 190+ from cams and timing I would say.
I’ve got 197 cams but ITBs as well on my hillclimb car. It runs 175 ftlb torque and 210 bhp. You can definitely feel the difference over a standard car. But how much is cams or throttle bodies I don’t know.
I do feel you with the NA mods...
What I said then. [emoji23]
And remove the stickers. They do nothing for it. Especially since it’s such a nice rare colour.

To be fair. A cage seats harnesses and steering wheels all cost money. That’s before you get to coilovers and other performance mods.
These are prime track day cars just now. Someone will pay to get one that is already sorted.
Once everyone has killed them on track days and there are none...
It’s probably worth what you are asking but personally I would change a few things which would make it appeal more and sell easier.
1) remove the stickers. As long as you can do this without damaging paint it will have far greater appeal.
2) put a better set of wheels on it. Net it might cost...
Proper cage or nothing for me. To get the level of finish you want I would prob go with a older r017 safety devices rear cage. Get it fitted and welding etc done, then remove it and get it painted / powder coated in a colour that matches or is a nice contrast to the car.
Once fitted it will...
Very different to drive. The mini is initially dominated by the lower driving position and the tiny windscreen.
I don’t think there is much in it power wise. They both feel quick. The mini also is quite good in the corners but not quite as good as the clio. Mini has better interior and gear...
My mate sent some picks of the car all cleaned up. He is really big into detailing cars. Looks after some locals Aston Martins and Bentleys so you know he is good.
Picking it up tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing it in person.

This one is supercharged as well. 130bhp with a specialist components rotrex supercharger kit. Although I have changed the crank pulley since so maybe 150bhp in the next few weeks.
You get the theme I can’t really leave cars alone.

I’m partial to turning spanner’s and most other tools around the garage.
And I’ve been into these for a decade so anything is easy access is comparison.

I was planning to take the front off to do the supercharger oil change so would make sense to do at the same time. What bearing shells do you recommend?

Interesting. Never heard of them being bad for it. Suppose any car can have the big ends go. Depends how it’s been looked after as well.

Yeah they aren’t quick. I actually quite enjoy driving it though. I actually think I’ll always have a van now. So handy for getting big stuff moved about.

I bought them second hand. They were lower but no where near enough so I just cut them up to see how it sat. They will get replaced with these.

I’ve not even looked at 17% reduced charger pulleys, r56 big brakes, miltek exhausts, coilovers or anything like that. [emoji23]
