If it does it's definitely a dodgy battery.
Get it from Renault, a lot of people say the cheaper ones fail really easily.
What's the big problem with the light being on anyway?
It's dead tiny and out to the side, not like it's a massive thing in your face that beeps, like a golf lol.
This kind of thing is common as muck on Clios, if you call the RAC I can guarantee they will know straight away what it is.
It's probably best not to say I think it's this or that, just explain the problem and leave it at that, it looks a bit sussed otherwise imo. If your calling the RAC out...

You can see it from the top, it's right where the gearbox makes contact with the engine, just underneath the airbox and left a bit really.
If you can drive it then it can't have come off.
The engine knock you refer to is the exhaust manifold touching the chassis, this can be reduced with a powerflex'd dogbone mount, not a big problem.
