Yep used to have one and made the stupid mistake of selling it:mad: after chucking alot of money at it..
Really good cars imo and prefer them to my 182
The majority of gearboxes on 172/182's leak from the gear linkage but it would take a very long time to run dry,no harm in checking the levels though..
Ideally you could do with getting it checked out ,i put my money on it needing a new clutch
Also were the rear discs torqued up correctly...
The clicking when the clutch is down is normally to do with the clutch release bearing.... In your case it sounds like a very very worn release bearing which is causing problems engaging gears (had the same problem on one of my old clios) complete new clutch kit should eradicate that problem...
