Try looking for:
Rusty rear arches
Clutch cable prone to snapping
Timing belt should have been changed at 70k or before
Try to accelerate HARD in 2nd from low revs - if it jumps out - gearbox may need to come out / new clutch
Noisy top end (pretty common when cold i think)
Rattles...
I ususally use a good quality 10w - 40w oil - GTX Magnatec....Shell Helix is good too...
I heard Mother Shiptons high grade cooking oil works a treat but have never tried it myself....;)

Pulled up to some lights near the motorway...next thing hear brrrrrrrrrrrr tshhh and see in my rear view two cars flying behind me....one had 3 pairs of lights on main beam , thinking what the hell is this???!?

I had this when i replaced my clutch cable - i damged the manifold heat shield, and when the engine got really hot, it was expanding the clutch cable, so it wouldnt go into gear sometimes - eventually the original gear knob flew off one day coz i was trying to rag it into gear that...
Is the cable an original Renault one?
Is it routed through the bulk head and into the engine bay correctly?
I did it myself with an aftermarket one - snapped 4 months later - i just ended up taking it to a mechanic, who said he wouldnt fit it for if it wasnt an original part....

Think ud better check ur pads, i noticed this on mine before i changed the pads - the drivers side was down to the metal backing! only at slow speeds tho, when stuck in traffic n stuff..
Same thing happened to me last month! effin p1sser - i got told that by renault, but got it done by a independant Renault specialist and he said he hasnt heard of changing the pedal, unless it was on the earlier models of the 16V, and renault modified the pedal for the later phase 2s...
Could be the plugs - mine was ticking away untill it was warmed up - sounded like there was a typewriter under the bonnet!
Swapped them tho, got Bosch platinum thingys (the ones with 4 points on the end), cost about £20 for 4 from halfords - theyre good quality, german made, and standard...

Mine does this....sounds like a banging/cracking/squeaking noise, only when i turn left, and only seems to be below 30mph....
Its off in the garage tommorrow for the repair as the guy said the ball joint was worn, the anti roll bar link has snapped (both o/s), and also the engine stabiliser...
Winter i weird - makes your clio do all sorts of weird things, this is the latest of recent events in mine.....
Was out on saturday monday, overcast and cloudy, had side and fog lights on. Pulled up to the shop for some fags. Came back to the car, put the lights back on, and no green light on...
