I used to launch my 1.4 RT at 3.5-4k, change at just over 5k in 1st, every other gear used to change when the rev needle hit 5.5k-6k. Thou that would prolly b different cus I have 16v dials in my RT! (So add a tad more on those above figures!;))

I thought that the phase 3 1.4 RT had a shorter ratio gearbox, or a similar one to the RSi, as the phase 3 rt had 75bhp and a 0-60 of about 11.9, the phase 1 & 2s, which had 80bhp did 0-60 in about 12.5. Marginal I know, but thats what I think anyway.

You should be able to find a full set of shocks for £250, like Gaz or Konis or Avos. My shocks are shagged too and the fronts squeak, the ride quality is poor and I dont like going for a drive in the country lanes cus its bouncy and worse than an ice cream vans ride quality.

Cheers, sorted it all now! Got new HT leads now thou and the plugs are fine as they are just about new. Car stil runs like sh*t!
Going to the garage sometime next week, fed up with it.
When I first got my RT an old Astra 1400 beat me down the ring road in towards Leicester. Top speed he just had it I couldnt keep up. Although mine was not modded at all his looked pretty old but had a zorst, prolly an induction kit and/or de-cat.
Saying that mine was completely standard....
Exactly the same thing happened on my 1991 1.4 RT. Has been sorta fixed with a heli-coil, but I would think a new head is in order as the heli-coil will probably have to be redone whenever you take the plug back out.

I also saw a white Renault 4 GTi on the A46 towards Leicester on Sunday midday. Didnt even know R4s existed! Was a C reg, looking good too for its age! Better condition than my car lol.
Hmm, just tried the HTs, must of done them up wrong as it made a pop sound when I tried starting it up.
The HT leads arent original Renault ones by the looks of it, they say Silicone Power Lead on and two are long of equal length, and two are short, again of equal length.

Cam timing, havent got a clue on that one.
Ive assumed that the HTs are on correctly as it was in the garage. I think they took the head off to heli-coil it as there is some sealant stuff under the rocker cover.
Didnt think HTs would cause this prob but if they could, what order should they...

Saw a 3 door Mark 1 in Tenerife with 1.7 badges on. It was a rob bacers car so it had a valver bonnet on and sun strip, alloys and stuff, couldnt tell what sort of spec it was, so, anyone shed any light on this? Engine from the R5 or the R19 perhaps?
