What's the major killer for gearboxes? I've heard about loads of valvers needing new gearboxes but mine has been fine so far, touch wood.
I'm guessing ragging it will kill it eventually due to the strain?
I guess i should be ok then.
Thing is, when i had my headgasket sorted and had a new clutch fitted (engine out job), the engineer told me the car has had a re-con/replacement engine in it at some point in it's life, as it had a temperature sticker on it or something like that.
The shell has...
I believe i have some Castrol 'High Mileage' oil in there at the moment, new oil as well. I think it's 10w/40.
I've got some 'injector cleaner' running through at the minute to try and fix lumpy idle from cold which seems to have helped a little, certainly feels smoother to drive from cold...
Love driving mine at 70/80mph on country roads, my suspension is quite stiff with little 14" wheels at the mo so it's like a rollercoaster when you go over a bump you fly out of your seat!
Wise decision i think. I'm hoping to keep mine until my insurance runs out and then i'm thinking of buying an Audi A3 1.8T off a work colleage. Has around 100k on the clock but with it being an Audi it'll no doubt run much longer than a valver.
I'll be sad to see it go as well, it's just so...
I'd be interested in knowing how you did it, i want to build one myself, the only problem is, how would you control the MP3 player? Touchscreens are quite fiddly and difficult to use in a bumpy car especially if it's a small screen..
Would you have some buttons somewhere?
Is there an adapter out for a '94 valver to use the (behind) steering wheel controls with an old sony headunit? That'd be sweet!
Anyone got links to sites that sell them?
There's a 2.5/3.5mm socket on the back of the H/U for the steering wheel controls and i have a block connected to the end...
When i start my valver from cold, it sounds quite 'tappety' for a while, and then all of a sudden it just stops dead and sounds as smooth as always. Just wondering what causes this? I'm guessing it's just the oil making it's way to the top of the engine?
If so, is there anything to stop it...
Whats the mileage of your valver engine at the moment?
Mine is almost at 118k but still running strong.
Just wondered how many more miles i can expect to get out of the engine? It's just had a new headgasket and full service and runs almost as smooth as the day it came out of the factory...
I'd better check mine again, i remember the last time i looked at that it was daaamn close to the belt, what a rubbish design!
My valver sometimes smells a bit, but only when i tap the accelerator as i'm coming down through the revs to make it 'pop', then i get an oily burning smell. If i just...
decatting my valver with a K-TEC S/S system makes it VERY loud and spits flames occasionally, but mine is a straight through system. Sounds nice though
Went passed you and flashed at around 6pm but i don't know if you're on here? Looked pretty standard, first black valver i've seen around here other than mine!
Hehe!
That's me parked up outside work!
Damn i miss those white wheels, must get some new tyres!! Doesn't have the lexus lights on anymore either, gone back to standard!
Bendee, give me a wave next time you see me! :D
Yeah that's the one! Doesn't have the white wheels on at the minute, got some megane wheels on :(
Yeah i know your brother, nice replica that is, mint!
I'm sure i remember seeing you Tom1600 on the A6 once, will look out for you now!
bendee, were you driving? I think i saw a modded clio go...
I've seen the Racing Blue 192 w/stripes outside the Primary school as well. Is he not on here?
Howcome i haven't seen either of you two around then? I drive a black valver with white stickers in the rear windows, always passing through mountsorrel in the evenings (work in Leicester during the...
Sound advice there.
Check all connections.... try with a different head unit as well, head unit might have a loose connection inside.
EDIT: Oh, and also, the amp doesn't use the same fuse as the head unit, it has (or should have) an inline fuse as close to the positive terminal on the...
Put the full beams on for an hour and cook it out.
It must've got in somehow. Just take the headlight unit out and take all of the bulbs out, then you might be able to poke something in to stab it and pull it out.
Only way you'll know is to have a look really. Obviously the switch is suspect, so swap it with another from another car and try it. If that doesn't work check there's power going to the motor. If there is, then i'd guess the motor is fooked.
If you do manage to find some pre-drilled holes, and you find somewhere selling a mount, i'd love to hear about it. I'm sick of my valver engine/gearstick rocking about as well!
The fusebox on my valver, the part that opens from underneath the glovebox, tends to hang down on one side as one of the clips that hold it up broke off a long time ago. It just looks untidy now and i aim to keep my car absolutely mint and everything in working order from when it came out of the...
