Another 'Is it a write off' thread?

This'll be one of them stupid comments then I think... Why do rear end shunts happen? Because the car in front slows down quicker than the car behind usually. So, if you want to learn from this experience you have to ask yourself why she managed to stop and you didn't? Driving too close...

    Stripping for Fuel Efficiency

Definitely makes a noticable difference in my opinion. Consider this... When maintaining a constant speed all the engine has to work against is wind and rolling resistance, therefore uses next to bugger all fuel unless you're on a motorway. Accelerating however, uses masses of fuel as the...

    Last FM on Xbox

But that's the point isn't it? It's a radio station as opposed to specific music on demand. You select an Artist or genre, then it plays track after track based on that as a theme? I searched on Rush and what came through in on my Rush 'radio station' was pretty spot on IMO.

    Last FM on Xbox

I had a play about with it this morning and ended up leaving it running for hours. I've got all my AV running through a Sony 6.1 1,000w so cranked it up...can't fault it.

    172 mpg advice please

Yep. ticking over at idle it's under barely any load at all, so doesn't get warmed through and sits there ticking away in its most ineffiecient state gently grinding everything away. Driving it when just started will still wear the engine, but it will heat up far quicker. The IAM slant is to...

    A few 172 Cup Questions.

    1. Yep, mine's done that right from the beginning. You just have to drive around it until it decides it's warm enough and starts behaving. 2. Probably not, mine's a Yozzasport decat and it sits up nicely. 3. Can't comment, now on my 3rd set of standard springs/dampers. :D

Evo Car of the year 2009

I did. The first time I sat in a Clio was once it had been delivered. Evo had a 172 Cup long term and they said at trackdays it drew the longest queues for passenger rides whilst soaking up all the abuse with ease. That was enough for me, they got it bang on.

    Heel Toeing in a 182?

Agreed I misunderstood on the synchromesh thing. I didn't misunderstand the reason I and many others heel and toe on the road in whatever car they drive. Plus you get the added benefit of not using your clutch as a braking surface that slows the car. :rasp:

    Heel Toeing in a 182?

The reason all of them do this is smoothness and balance and that's why it can be beneficial in any situation. Nothing whatsoever to do with the synchromesh...that would be double de-clutching.

    Heel Toeing in a 182?

No one's mentioned feel and sensitivity yet. There's no need for most to have a raised pedal, you just need to be able to roll your foot off to the right to blip the throttle, while maintaining a constant pressure through the brake padel beneath your rolling foot. Feel and sensitivity...

    Sony - PS3 - Losing 'it'?

They've only got themselves to blame. They sat on their arses getting fat off of the PS2 and GT3 et al, starving a software industry of a next gen platform so desperately needed. So MS nip round the flank and seriously get the jump on them with the 360. Regardless of which is technically...

    Optimum gear change ?

Calculate away all you want fella, but that video proves visually that past 6,500 rpm in 4th, the speedometer accelerates no faster than it does in 5th at the same speed. :D
  18. Tighten My Nuts

    Optimum gear change ?

There's no optimum that applies to all gears...at high speeds as drag comes into play so short shifting can be more effective plus the different spacing/drop in revs between each gear makes the change point for each shift vary. I've found that in the lower gears (2nd + 3rd) it's often worth...

Would a 172 Cup be devalued...

If poor 'posture' is your main issue instead of swapping seats why not buy a CG-Lock? I had a serious back problem a few years back, and driving was just about bearable so long as I had the CG-Lock fitted. Since I then ripped the standard belts/seat out of my Cup the CG-Lock's now moved across...

    Xbox wireless question

Aye, a wirelss 'bridge' will work. Had a Netgear one working on my original Mk1 Xbox...as above needs setting up separately first though. Once done the 360 will think it's connected using a normal CAT5 cable.

    172 cup owners opinions

Mine's been OK...up to 115k now from new. Apart from a niggly wiring issue when new it's been bang on. Consumables can last ages, and the only major thing I've replaced has been the gearbox as a result of running out of talent in a big way on track. Once this one finally becomes terminally ill...

    What Xbox do I buy?

I'd avoid the 60gb one. If you want a quiter gaming experience then you need to install ALL your games to the HDD. Throw in a few downloaded GTA levels, Forza car/track packs, games demos, arcade games blah blah blah and 60gb doesn't go very far at all. 120gb is the minimum you should get IMO.

Are Brembo calipers covered under warranty?

Just in case it's not been picked up yet... Most of the braking is done by the front axle, very little is done by the rears. No way your car has been braking using just the rears - as others have said you'd have binned it long ago if that was the case. There's some qualified opinions on here...

    Goodridge braided lines question

Common error! I gave my car and the lines to a garage to fit. Picked it up, drove it home, then looked at the rear brakes... Got straight on the phone to the garage thoroughly pissed off demanding someone explain why they hadn't fitted the rears, and what would they do to compensate me for the...

    Another 1.8 16v cliosport conversion

Between two visits to Surrey Rolling Road I removed my power steering and put a homemade airbox/CAF kit on. This added 10 bhp, Charlie (owner) says from his experience that power steering, even in it's dead-ahead 'idle' state takes about 7 bhp which would mean 3 from my airbox. Makes sense to...
