That's a very kind offer on loaning the rc kit, and if its a genuine one, Id really like to take you up on that!
My dilemma is that I now look at the car and think I want diff, seats, wheel, rc kit. That lot will cost x and my budget for the next 3-6 months is probably x / 2 if I want to get a...
Thanks for the advice, Ash.
Spring rates are f/r 456lb / 513 lb.
I was concerned the car is a little too low, but RC correction is on my to do list - I'm just not so sure it needs to be super high on my list with such a stiff setup.
How much of an improvement are the DZ03s? Are there any...
That is impressive. I'm always impressed how late the Caterhams can brake and just how much speed they carry through the corner - they seem to rinse pretty much everything when driven well!
I was surprised at how slow they were. This was only my second time at Brands and the first time was a huge fail - the car setup left it massively oversteery in the wet and after loosing two tyres to the gravel trap, I was going so slow I was almost going around backwards, lol!
This time I got...
To be honest, with the PAS pump whining, I was planning on removing the pump, looping the pipes on the rack and fitting an electric column.
But the fluid is only a couple of years old, and the first time it boiled at Silverstone it was probably a few months old. I shall remove some fluid next...
I found quite an improvement from adding camber to the rear, but as Tony says, I guess you really need to be trying hard to take advantage of it :)
I have -2.5 front and rear, which seemed pretty good - I think the front could do with going up to -3, though.
I certainly wasn't holding the Civic up. :P
There was an old boy in a Black Clio that refused to let me pass three sessions in a row.
A Blue Clio with Lexus lights was just as guilty of not letting me pass :(
Its actually quite annoying - the Clios were the worst for not letting me pass, and...
Ps. Wasn't sure where to put this - I figured there would be more 'trackers' hovering around the suspension forum. But mods, please move if you think it'd be better elsewhere.
So, after my AST Sport line 1 purchase and a set of R888s, I took the Clio to Brands yesterday and was mighty impressed at the improvements to the car.
I have a video at half way through the day with a full tank, a >100kg passenger, a lift to let someone pass and some pretty early braking in...
Long story short - fitted ASTs and wheels (around ET45) were fouling on the abs bracket/spring cup with the amount of camber I opted for.
Fitted 20mm spacers and now I get a fair bit of rubbing over bumps.
I can't quite work out where it is rubbing as I can't see any evidence of it.
Its not...
Hmm. It's not something I've actually sat and thought too much about - thanks for the tips on the belts, though!
Does the PMS alternator bracket work the same as the cup one? I'm assuming the PMS kit works with a aircon model alternator whereas you'd need a cup alternator with the cup setup?
I was going to speak to PMS and see if their PAS idler can be used with their standard Aircon delete kit (ie. not the whole expensive lightweight pulley kit).
It seems like a nicer solution and no messing around finding new alternators, obscure belts etc.
I'd avoid an engine flush unless you were doing it with each oil change from new.
As people have already stated, they can make seemingly good seals start to leak and there is a chance of them shifting but not breaking down deposits that then block smaller oil ways.
I think the idea for one the other end is that you have a power supply that end (ie. an alternator).
Not essential, but it couldn't hurt and you end up with a handy little terminal box!
A slight sidetrack, but if you were concerned about the split ball joint rubber for MOT, you know that you can get ball joint boots for about 50p a pop, right?
A little more progress.
New rear discs and pads
Also got the front spacers on - looks tidy, but the fronts rub.
Fortunately, they were purchased for my track wheels which are ET45 (rather than the ET35 of the pictured wheels).
Shame really.
It has no use on the road, beyond driving to track days until I stump up for a trailer.
I'm looking forward to see how the car fairs with the new suspension in the autosolos - on standard suspension, even with -3 degrees front camber I was still rolling over on the inside wheel. Hopefully the...
Yeah, the plan was Gripper.
I'm torn on the CW, as I use the car for Autosolos, too.
My head says stick with the gearing that I know I've been able to make work for me so far, but done right (with a bit more low down torque), I could potentially move my whole run (bar launch) into 2nd gear...
Thinking about it - that might explain the discrepancies in the rear toe/camber I found when getting it aligned after fitting the ASTs.
Makes a lot more sense.
