well took it to my local mechanic this morning, he just rang to tell me that it isnt the abs sensor it is the ring on the end of the driveshaft that tells the sensor to kick in has split? now need new drive shaft!! another £138 including fitting which aint bad at all imo but it aint good either...

sounds like your breather pipe is not connected to the intake pipe, mine did this on my old mk2 ph1 1.2 pissed all over the underside of the bonnet as the fit wasnt very good and it would occasionally come out. :)
