I drove my 172 about 30 miles to a renault dealership with a misfire on No.4 cylinder (dead coil pack) Didn't do any harm, and the odd thing was that No.4 spark plug wasnt wet with fuel, which made me think that maybe the ecu knew which cylinder wasnt firing and shut the fuel injector down. The...
If you really want to do this then give Kent Cams a ring (google them) They reprofiled a new camshaft out of an obscure Talbot Samba engine for me, cost about £120.
To be honest I havn't done anything about it yet. The misfire is very infrequent - I suspect a dodgy ignition lead (see advice above) so I'll change them as soon as I get round to it as the problem can only get worse.
Currently using Elf Tranself TRX 75W80, but I can't seem to find anywhere to buy some more.
Can anybody recommend a supplier, or an alternative good gear oil?
I wouldnt use anything other than the standard ones.
I may have been unlucky, but I once fitted Bosch Super 4's from Halfords and the ignition coil failed the next day - it had overheated and split. Im convinced this was something to do with the bosch plugs.
My car misfires very occasionally and I'm not sure why.
It happens when the car is warm and I have noticed it only at low revs (2.5-3k) with the engine under slight load. Like if I accelerate in 2nd from low speed, or if Im creeping round a carpark in 1st.
It misfires once and then doesnt do...
Sounds like its running lean, get the injector checked.
My old 1.4RT (R-reg) popped like hell when it developed a hole in the exhaust downpipe (where it goes down under the engine)
Hope this helps
Please help.
My dad tried to start my car with the wrong key. I have a spare key that isnt coded to my car but will physically work the door locks and ignition barrel.
Now my "normal" key that does unlock the remote central locking etc will crank the engine but the engine wont fire.
Any...
The acoustic valve body houses an oval butterfly valve - a bit like a throttle valve.
The valve appears to close using intake vacuum, a spring holds the valve shut and engine vacuum opens the valve against this spring. However, the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the valve appears to...
Almost certainly head gasket failure.
If it was just oil in one cylinder then MAYBE a valve stem seal + something funny happened to a valve guide. Or a piston ring issue.
However, you've got mayo aswell which tells me you've probably got cooland mixing with oil - so I'd put my money on it...
I took the butterfly out of mine and left everything else connected. The valve body acts as a nice mount for the air feed up to the the airbox.
I can't say Ive noticed much of a difference, maybe a bit more noise.
Id remove it completely if I needed the room inside the wheelarch.
The carbs should "work" without any management at all - they are carbs. Jetting them to suit might be tricky, unless you can get jet sizes from somebody who has already done it.
Im now insured through Adrian Flux for £540.
Fully Comp with protected NCB. £300 excess. No mods and 5k miles (I walk to work)
I thought that was fairly good :)
