if slick 50 was so useful in new engines, oil companies would do a blend with it in. so he is down on performance, add slick 50 and you think that might cure it? its sure to be an underlying problem something which slick 50 isn't going to make any difference to.
theres no bottom end knock, i know what im listening for. And no belt slap as i had the cover off and was watching it. Its top end related. Like an extremely loud lifter or something. Either way top end needs to be taken off.

ball joint usually makes a single knock when direction of force is changed on it, unless its very worn. Did you put the driveshaft nut back on? and tighten the caliper up tightly?
