    M3 Nurburgring crash

only been the once and am happy to leave it at that - some fairly disturbing moments in just 8 'goes' (all involving traffic - either people coming up from behind, blind, 'at ramming speed', or bikers turtling on their backs just as we came through blind corners - 3 incidents of that, each on...

Missfire, oil and mayonnaise on plugs, s**t!

if it's nothing serious, it might also be an idea to renew the oil and filter, as they may be contaminated with fuel if you've been running without a spark in one or more cylinders

    Crazy b******s

Re: Crazy b*****ds i'm guessing he's taken the mirror off so that it doesn't get in the camera's way. it looks 'staged' - he's out with the Porsche, they're videoing it, and are having a bit of fun together

    Should I have used loctite?

guessing, but worst case scenario (if the alloy's threaded) is using longer bolts with nuts on t'other end as Russ seems to be suggesting (not had a look myself) does sound fiddly though hopefully just an original tightness prob:)

    Should I have used loctite?

the bolts are steel and the castings that they screw into are alloy, so, if you've overtigtened them, the steel will have cut the alloy given what you've said (re. that they've tightened up a second time), they may just not have been tight enough originally and have worked loose i'd honestly...

    RS Gearboxs.............who's had problems

if you've a good box, 'all' i reckon you can do is make sure the engine mounts are good, keep an eye out for leaks, change the oil more regularly than the (non-existant) Renault schedule, and not hammer it i might say this, as i've been 'unlucky' with mine (secondhand car), but i honestly...

    RS Gearboxs.............who's had problems

my reasoning in suggesting there's no need to double de-clutch is in the fact that it requires (literally) twice as much effort and that you probably make millions of gearshifts in the typical lifetime of a gearbox. not looking forward to having to replace the gearbox in mine again, but i'd far...

    Rust Proofing

Frost keep a lot of stuff but, as said, they're not cheap think i used some sort of red-oxide based paint (from Frost) when i restored mine - can't remember what it was called, but it was American and was 'apparently' the stuff that they paint oil rigs with (!? - can't usually trust the patter...

What's best for a wet track day: Toyo R888 or Conti's?

think most people would be happier with the road tyres. could take both sets, start on the 888s and swap if it's too exciting

    Rolling Roads

it'll be too late now, but if you're going for work on the engine, there's some useful general advice on this site (need to scroll to find it): http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/ mostly 'not applicable' if you're just going for a piece of laminated paper with some lines and numbers on it though

    Air box screw dropped :(

depends where it's gone but, if you don't find it now, chances are you'll never see it again it's nice to find stuff that drops off whilst working but, just a screw, not worth worrying about:)

    Suspension / steering wheel issue

i think the wheel's splined so that it can only be put on in the one position (relative to the column) they'll not have been careful enough whilst tracking it up - just take it back if it's irritating

    1800bhp per tonne!!! lol.

was just reading about this in yesterday's paper - that one's yellow and i thought it looked a bit.. erm, 'Airfix'.. back end had two massive tailpipes and a crass '1800HP' badge - it's different to the car in the piccies above pretty impressive engineering feet with the engine and the...

    Mot Failure - Opinion please

quote for the gaiter seems reasonable (have they told you what their hourly rate is? i'd guess the gaiter's £10-£20) it is common practise to check/adjust tracking after having carried out any work that disturbs the front suspension/steering - might get away without though what do the tyre...

    Optimum gear change ?

haven't timed it (Mark may have done?) but, just from feel, i'd not noticed the benefit in taking it much past 6.5k. you're comparing the acceleration you gain from the waning power/torque/whatever (past 6.5k) with the torque in the next gear (which is stronger imo) ed. if you wanted to, you...

    After service ............Help!

take it back to the garage. my guess is it's something to do with the plugs, or maybe they've damaged a lead or something. have they renewed the plenum to inlet gasket? bunch of things it could be

    Tyres

cheapest OE size tyres for turinis are going to be 195/45/16. going rate for decent ones is about £60ea (online) - probably get much cheaper ones, but it's another one of those 'get what you pay for' things to an extent. you'd get away with cheaper ones on a 1.2 if you don't hurl it about too much

    Heel Toeing in a 182?

Fred (or anyone else!), as an instructor, do you have any tips for people who struggle with this? i just can't do it without pulsing the brake - heel on the floor, size 10 over the pedals as described, fairly short-armed driving position (i.e. sitting close to the wheel) do some people just...

The best driving game of all time. **Contains Memories**

can't really go wrong with SuperSprint, but was also thinking of GT2 - it was just bigger and better than GT1. shame they didn't carry the Grindelwald (sp?) circuit onto the later games, as it was an ace track - sort of a shortened Nurburgring
