my car is a bit unstable and wanders about on anything but the smoothest roads under high speed/ acceleration.
what's the likely culprit?
top mounts
front shocks
wishbone bushes
tracking
worn tyres
also it sometimes pulls when braking to a stop on these uneven roads
thanks, kris...
very cheap with the dogbone bush as well

Not seen one before, looks nice, except for the wheels :dead:
so i've been looking at the silkolene/titan pro s but a bit rich for my wallet
so it's titan supersyn or elf sxr, both can be had for £30ish delivered
much difference, really?

bargain for someone.... maybe
can you get standard replacement wishbone bushes?
if you can't, i presume i should get powerflex as its cheaper than buying new wishbones.
and if thats the case, i should then get powerflex arb bushes.
i imagine mixing powerflex and oem on the front will rapidly wear the oem ones...?

my car feels and sounds like its overfueling. the exhaust has got a bit of a deeper tone to it and you can feel its not really willing to stretch its legs. it still goes quick, but its just not going like it should.
i changed the upstream lambda about a week ago and its been great except for...
i've called a couple of garages who have the hunter system and one of them quoted £70 for full alignment or £35 for the front. what's the difference?
(yes it may seem obvious ie. one is only the fronts, but i'm wondering if they still check the rear geometry for £35 and the cheaper option...
halfway through removing mine. it won't run properly with it connected, will it run reasonably well now that i've cut the wire or it will fubar the cat
i've managed to crack the nut with a 22mm spanner and 3/8 ratchet on the end of the spanner, but now it's cracked it's getting even tougher to turn, even if i swap the ratchet out for a breaker bar!
it is left hand down to remove isn't it?
hi, i finally have a running problem, to go with my steering problem :)
most of the time it gets to around 3500rpm and it won't go any further. it doesn't bounce off a limiter, it just bogs down and stops accelerating. sometimes i can get passed it by coming off the throttle a bit and then...
1. with the pump of the car, should the pulley rotate with no friction like the alternator, or will there be a little friction?
2. should there be an o ring where the hi pressure pipe fits into the hole on the pump?
3. can you get rebuild kits, or not worth the effort?
thanks, kris
yes, before i'm called weak, i've had manual racks in the past (205 GTI) but now the steering feels more like broken power steering than a manual rack. is this right?
would manual racks of yore have had more turns lock to lock? rather than the 2.75 i have now.
i replaced both tie rods about four months ago. one moves fairly freely with no play, one is so tight that if i use a spanner to turn the bar itself, it undoes the joint at the steering rack. so, defo no play, but very very stiff. good or bad?
i'm doing my aux belt tomorrow, what sort of tension should i have on the belt, ie one inch of flex along the longest part?
i've just removed pas and have got a shorter belt, but not 100% on what size belt i need yet
(ignoring powerflex)
i can't seem to locate 25mm inner arb bushes at local factors. or 23mm outer ones for that matter. are they dealer only?
thanks, kristian
Not too sinister, I had the hub assembly separated from the wishbone and it popped out. Gearbox side. No leakage or anything. I managed to push it back in.
is it normal for the end of the driveshaft to come out of the gearbox with the three bolts still done up? Like its loose within the boot...
