    Annoying humming

I expect the tweeters just respond to the interference better than the other speakers, thats why its so noticable from them. Ahh yes, Id heard something about you having a spot of bother. Cant have been that long after youd had the wing repaired after that poor girl reversed into it! Did...

    changing components in 182

my tweeters went in ok, you just have to use the appropriate fixing. dont mount them on the dash, that just looks tacky! do it properly!

    Annoying humming

Glenn, yeah the cables for the door speakers join at an ISO extension block behind the radio. Theyre soldered on - complete with heatshrink. I guess one could have a dry joint. Tweeters, as you probably know, are on their own new cable with no joins.

    Annoying humming

erm... no, not really. if you unplug both sets of leads from the amp, youll be able to tell if its picking up the noise after the hu. Does it still get louder as the revs build up? It could all be related so new rca leads might fix it. (I thought the noise always came from the tweeters...

    Annoying humming

simply swapping over the left / right rca channels for the front speakers at the amp would soon tell you if its a problem with the HU. It would make the other side cut out. If its still the same speaker, put the RCAs back in the correct positions, then try swapping the wires to the speakers on...

    replacing speaker cable in 172

Well Ive had no problems with mine, running the JL audio 450w amp. If the crossovers are in the dash, all you need is about 1m of cable off each and connect that to the ISO block the then connects to the original wiring loom. Sounds easy peasy to me! (I put my crossovers in the boot!)

    Annoying humming

Being the sad perfectionist I am, Id still like to fix this for your because the job isnt complete without it. Trouble is, Alex stole ( ;-) ) the RCA leads Id got for you to replace the crappy ones you had. Im pretty sure hes not using them so Ill get them back off him one day.

    replacing speaker cable in 172

get an iso -> iso cable from halfords and chop the front speaker wires in half. Then you can solder / crimp bullets onto them and plug your crossover wires in that way. No cutting of the loom and its easy to remove :)

    New RoadAngel vs Origin B2

Ahh man, this is one of those toys I just love to buy! The unit looks kinda huge though and if Ive got to position it so that it looks through the little clear area of the front screen, I can tell its going to get right in my way. Its probably fine for everyone except those with weirdo...

new 172 rear brakes - worth uprating

ok, well Ive already got the fronts on order from potn.com so its just the rears were talking about here. By the sounds of it, you guys think I should just get Renault ones. (kind to brake pads and not noisy) I realise the fronts will be noisy, and thats another reason I kinda wanted normal...

new 172 rear brakes - worth uprating

lol, I like the sound of having matching discs all round too. Its just a shame so few places sell the rears to match what Ive ordered. I like to shop around and get the best price!

new 172 rear brakes - worth uprating

Im changing my disc / pads all round and having just ordered uprated fronts, I cant help but wonder if its worth doing the same to the back or just buying standard Renault ones. Theres not a huge price different and to be honest, I dont care about it anyway! Grooved + drilled (or spotted - to...

    Alpine 9835

Nah, it was easy actually. It tucks in quite nicely behind the climate control box. As for the screen....well its a proper pixel based graphics screen. Its not just a bunch of straight lines going to make up letters and stuff. Ill get some pics of it doing funky stuff tomorrow.

    Alpine 9835

Mine turned up on Monday. Just thought Id share a few photos. The unit has changed somewhat from last years models. Theyve added the external DC/DC converter back again and you no longer need a direct feed from the battery. Its amped with a 15amp fuse. Im not sure if that differs from the 9833...

    Replacing Front Speakers

Rather than chopping the existing plugs off, buy some adapters. That way you can put the old speakers back in when youre finished. Theyre only a few quid.

    pullin it off

The top bit you hold onto is a lump of white plastic with a rubber (leather) cover over it. There is then a silver plug pushed into that with the gear number on it. Know what I mean now?! A small screwdriver will remove the plug. Peel the rubber (leather) up and youll see the white plastic...

    pullin it off

lift up the rubber cover and get some mole grips on the plastic at the bottom with the slits in it. It only takes a slight twist to get it started and then you can just pull it off.

    Refitting steering wheel with airbag

My mate has a Fiesta Zetec S (Yeah, I know I shouldnt swear on these forums ;-) ) but like on most of them, the steering wheel has kinda melted. We got him a new one from the scrappy the other day and just need to use his existing airbag module. Having removed the one at the scrappy, I know...

    Head Units From USA

No, Pete is correct - for Alpine HUs anyway. The US model doesnt have the interface connection at all. But then if it doesnt have it, you cant really say it doesnt work ! Clearly its not supposed to!
  29. RB_172

    Head Units From USA

Alpine US HUs have an option to set for Area 1 - US or Area 2 - Everywhere else for their radio tuning. The only problem Ive found with mine is that it doesnt support RDS. I guess they dont have it over there. Its all that XM satellite radio rubbish.
