    F7R 714

a mate of mine made 160bhp and 133lb/ft at john noble rolling road with that very setup. plenty of grunt on tap. use the megane box, as itl give u better mpg in top gear. these 2litres suck the juice! jimbo

    F7R 714

the megane box mite use the same ratios as the williams box, tho im not 100% sure. ur looking at 180quid for a chip fitted, and the going rate for a megane lump is anywhere from 400quid to over a grans jsut for engine alone. jimbo

    F7R 714

also, make sure u use the 1.8 flywheel on the megane block, as the timing marks are different on the megane-car wont start otherwise! jimbo

    F7R 714

well u can use the megane box, but not the megane ecu with the 1.8 head, as the control for the ignition is completly different. use the bottom end and box with 1.8 head and ecu. get it all running, then get a stage 1 2litre chip off nick hill to suit the 2litre/1.8 head hybrid. thats the msot...

    F7R 714

u can use the 16v box fine. u can also use the 1.8 ecu for the time being. i used the 1.8 ecu on williams lump for cupla weeks no probs-jsut dont rag it at high revs. sell the megane head and use ur 1.8 head on the megane block

    F7R 714

a staright megane engine swap wont work. u need to run a f7p/f7r head design to run the engine management proeprly. the megane f7r uses a different head design, wich means different manifolds. plus the ignition system is different-no dizzy. jimbo

    Bloody turbo on bloddy F7P

dish the standard pistons 1mm deep 8mm from the edges. this will be a decent enuff squish band. lowers the compression ratio to about 9::1 with a spesso 1.6mm headgasket. that setup can handle upto 0.9bar. anything more, and u need forged low comp pistons jimbo

    more torque

my motor made 147bhp and 123lb/ft at john noble rollers wen i was stage 2 1.8. other 2litre theres on that rolling road day made 160bhp and 130-odd lb/ft. tbh, i think jn rollers are accuarate, but i always use the wheel power of 118bhp, as calculating flywheel power is dodgy no matter where u...

    Exhaust heat wrapping

i wrapped the downpipe on my williams. i mainly did this as i took the heatshield off, wanted to protect the steering rack from excessive heat. works a treat, until u get an oil leak, which then soaks the wrap and it smokes like a bugger everythime u drive it! but apart from that its worth...

history of the 172 engine pls

the F4R is a development of the f7R engine, wich is a bored out version of the f7p. all block dimensions r the same thruout the engines, however the f4r has a chain driven oil pump, rather than shaft driven from the cambelt. this was changed due to poor circulation and oil cavitation issues on...

    Running in new cams

building up oil pressure before any initial firing of the engine should be part of the course anyway. but when running in new cams, oil alone wont provide enough lubrication. itl break down very easily. thats why cam lube is used. its a special moly tube lubricant, which can resist high...

    Williams handling improvements

stick on a new set of suspension bushes; wishbone and anti-roll bar. ball joints and track rods ends die over time and abuse. get these replaced, theyr cheap enuff. also get the tracking checked. jimbo

    Running in new cams

youll need to use cam lube when installing the new camshafts. once the engine is fired up, rev it to between 2and 3k revs. u need to hold that revs at this rpm for at least 5mins. shut off the engine, then check the cams shafts to make sure they are lubed okay. then restart the engine and...

ive had a bad experience with a valeo uprated gt trubo clutch. had the cluthc in the car for about 4months. when i swapped the williams engine in, i noticed that 3 of the 6 pressure springs on the clutch plate had disintegrated. bits of spring wer lying in the bottom of the bell housing. im...

    Quick Shift

a cheap way of doing it, is to cut down the length of the standard lever. remove the knob, and gaiter. using a hascksaw cut thru the shaft-about one inch down. on the otuer palstic sleeve theres several ribbed bits (ooo-er) which can be used as the lift reverse. a simple job, takin no more than...

    williams mpg

ive jsut stuck my freshly rebuilt williams engine in my 19 16v. its done 600miles now, and am a little concerned about its fuel economy; 22mpg around town 28-30max mpg at steady 70mph i used to manage 40mpg regulalry with my 1.8 at 80mph. at the moment its costing me a poacket in fuel...

New oil pressure sensor - Williams/16V

the actual oil pressure sensor is located on the rear of the block. if fits into the top of the auxialary shaft drive(i.e. oil pump drive). its very difficult to get access to it on the 19, mite be easier on the clio williams. ul need a 17-18mm spanner to undo it. the low oil pressure sensor...

    big end gone - fixable

drop the sump, undo the big end bearing caps, and inpsect the shells. if the engines done a a huge mileage, then jsut replace em with new ones. but it could be a another problems as to why the big ends went, mostly likely due to oil starvation or breakdown. either way, the evidence left on the...

nope, there should be no whining on a new belt jimbo

    Williams service/cambelt done

that whining noise, is the cambelt put on too tight. or either tensioner or idler pulley bearing worn. tite belt sounds like a supercharger whine. the cambelt wont stretch over time, itl snap within a few hundred miles. seems to me renault dont know there arse from there elbow. charge 600quid...

    contemplation of a faster valver!

buy some billet cams, 285degree jobbies. find a set of second hand 45mm throttle bodies. look on ford n vauxhall websites. buy the inlet manifold from jenvey, and use dta engine managment. build it all up urself, then get the ecu setup on rolling road. jimbo

240bhp 16V Clio Rally engine pics

is it true these engines need rebuilding every 10k miles, due to the high state of tune? like new rings needed because of the super high compression ratios? or is that jsut for race teams who dont wanna loose 1bhp over the period of those miles, and it would last jsut fine under normal "road"...
