    Turbines

Does anyone know of anywhere that will restore Turbines to their original (polished) finish. Ive got a set in my garage that I would love to get back on the valver, but the finish is in pretty poor condition. Ive been to a couple of local wheel specialists and they can refurbish them, but say...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

Exactly, so it would really take some degree of testing (as was carried out on the Michelins) before you really know whether youve got a system that works better/well together or not. And "better or worse" still has to be defined, as it will be down to personal opinion, and what you actually...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

Fair enough, thats why I said as an all round package youd struggle to improve with "slap-on" mods.

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

Im not one of "you guys" as Ive only just decided to contribute to this debate! I personally am not saying that as Renault intended = best results, (youd have to define what the best result was). All Im saying is that as Renault intended = very good in the case of the Williams. Im sure it is...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

Possible, but unlikely! I also didnt say that "not as renault intended" = "horrible", its just a lot of development time does go into this sort of thing. Like someone (maybe you) mentioned earlier in the thread, tyre choice is often a compromise between ride comfort, grip, handling etc. so its...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

I didnt say that, its just a lot of the fine-tuning of suspension takes place on prototypes which run on the same tyres as the finished product.

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

Most of the fine-tuning of a vehicles suspension is carried out by expert calibrators who test drive prototypes, subjectively gauge how well a car handles in each particular area, modify, then test again until they are happy. It is very unlikely that they did their testing on one set of tyres...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

No, they would probably have picked a different tyre, but the suspension settings would have been fine-tuned for that particular tyre, making it the most suitable choice if you want your car to handle as Renault intended - i.e. very well. Putting Michelins on would then potentially negatively...

    Handling - Willy Vs 16v

I really dont think you can argue with King on this one. All hes saying is that the Michelins work best with the suspension setup, because those are the tyres on which the suspension settings were developed and fine-tuned. Any other tyres and it wont handle like Renault intended; like a Williams...

    What are they all about

I think the main quarter miles are at Santa Pod, York and Crail. People normally organise groups trips from this forum, so keep your eyes peeled in "Meetings and Events". Santa Pod would be closest to you, have a look at http://www.santapod.comwww.santapod.com for more info. I live in Bath...

    de-cat questions

Nothing else involved, if youre that worried about the noise then get a silenced de-cat pipe, if you can get one for your car

    de-cat questions

I already had a loud k-tec exhaust when I got my (silenced) de-cat fitted and it didnt make it that much louder The performance difference is definitely noticable My car passed with a de-cat and its a 93K. Not sure if the garage made a mistake but I didnt mention it and it passed!:)

    Is the temperature normal

There was a thread posted on coolant temperatures yesterday mate. Its sounds to me that your car was running too cool before, and now is back to normal. The Clio manual suggests that it should run at around the second mark under normal driving conditions. This change in temperature will be...

better fuel economy - anything else to do

A de-cat shouldnt make it worse. If anything I suppose it could improve fuel economy (provided you drive the same) because less power is being lost pushing the exhaust gases through the restrictive cat. Would be minimal though.

better fuel economy - anything else to do

Agree with Elliot about the weight, however the fuel tank on that 1.2 is only 43 litres, and the density of petrol is only 0.75kg/litre (about 3/4 the density of water), so even a full tank will only weigh about 30kg (average adult weighs about 65kg I think). Still a valid point though.

    Williams Temps

That sounds pretty much the same as my car, and is certainly well within the safe operating temperature of the oil, so not a problem. The coolant temp gauge has the bottom mark, then two large marks before it goes into the heavily shaded area. Not sure what you actually mean when you say 1/4...

    de-cat on standard exhaust

Ive got a K-tec stainless system with their silenced de-cat. In a way, I wish Id just gone for the de-cat, because I think I prefer the standard look. I got the exhaust first, and the de-cat about 6 months later. Didnt notice much difference when I put the exhaust on, apart from it was much...

    de-cat on standard exhaust

I am sure that youd definitely notice a power gain with a de-cat pipe on a standard exhaust. Not sure of exact figures but the standard cat is very restrictive. Youd get a roartier exhaust note, but as youre keeping the standard silencer it shouldnt be too loud - and the best part is itd still...

    Williams Temps

Thats probably due to the crudeness of the thermostat. Its basically just a temperature-dependant valve that is closed when the coolant is cold to only circulate a small amount of coolant around the engine (so it can heat up quicker), then opens up to a larger coolant circuit when the...

do k-tec zorst backfire like escort mk1

lol peak power is produced at 6500 rpm, but it probably drops away fairly quickly after that! I have a K-tec with de-cat and I do get a kind of popping/bubbling noise as I decelerate from high revs with my foot very slightly on the gas (hard to explain). Loud-ish pops are achievable in this...

    k-tec exhaust rating

I seem to have a loud one, although Ive obviously got a different engine to you. I didnt realise there were three levels of loudeness when I got mine, or I would probably have gone for the quietest one. Mines so loud sometimes that I think theres something wrong with it, especially when the car...

    Infuriating wheel cradle

What a fooking dumb-ass, the securing bolt/claw type thing must have turned around when the spare dropped down so it was facing the wrong way! Looks like Ill have to go and try to remove it now though if it rattles about.......

    Infuriating wheel cradle

Oh, is there no way it screws back up without the spare in place then?

    Infuriating wheel cradle

This is probably going to sound ridiculous, but I cant get the spare wheel cradle to relocate on my valver. I just removed the spare wheel in a bid for weight reduction and cant get the b*****d cradle to stay back up now....... Probably just me being careless in my hungover moodiness, but what...

    k-tec exhaust rating

To be honest, Im a bit sick of mine at the moment. The sound is just what you want when youre really going for it, but for normal driving its sending me round the bend! I recently drove to gatwick with three friends plus luggage and to be honest it was embarressingly harsh on the ears. If you...

    Rustinessnessness

I had mine done by a professional last summer, but couldnt afford to get it cut out so just went for the rub down and tidy up. The guy said that it was only a matter of time before it reappeared and he was right - It looked smart for a while but now the rust is starting to come through again. It...

    Shall i paint my Calipers

If your calipers are looking tatty then it might make it look a bit smarter, but personally Im not a big fan of red ones. Why not be ultra subtle and tidy them up by painting them the colour of the car if you can?
