I'm well aware of the offsets involved and may choose now to change the suspension at all as I don't track the car.
I'm not a lowering fiend, so if I did decide to change it, the drop would be minimal. IIRC, Leed_182 went for a pretty hefty drop.
I'm pleased at the moment :)
Thanks to Aust1n and his mate for meeting me half way and fitting the wheels for me today. I'm really pleased with them, opinions welcome.
Now for some coilovers............*reaches for wallet*
Nothing wrong with magnatec in the right car but I don't think they do a 5W-40. Plus iirc magnatec is only semi-synth, whereas you might be better off with a fully synth.
People on here seem to think the Silkolene Pro S 5W40 fully synthetic is good stuff, which is what I'm going to try soon.
I work for BP Global Lubricant Technology, but Global Fuels Technology is based on the same site.
I went to a presentation the other day where they showed us this, and also a video taken through an endoscope of the three inlet valves of a cylinder from each bank whilst running and the visual...
To be honest, it is less about the octane rating and more to do with the additives in the fuel (except on cars where knocking is an issue).
A 4.2 V8 Audi A8 at work has been modified to run each cylinder bank from a seperate fuel supply. One bank they run on BP Ulitimate and the other on...
<<<haven't seen too many baked beans that colour.
Inferno is schizofrenic. Many different shades in different lights, I like all of them including bean juice orange!
Don't get me wrong, I don't think on full chat it sounds too bad (in fact a lot of my non-car loving friends think it sounds "fruity"), but for a peformance car it's too muted for my tastes.
A lot of people who tune their cars from here do track or 1/4mile them.
Anyway, your point is like saying what's the point in fast cars full stop. It's all about how quickly they get up to speed, how well they pull in gear, the odd fun (if slightly illegal!) blast, the feel of raw acceleration.
I know it's all about the handling, and not how low it goes, but to be honest I think that is the perfect level of lowering anyway. I think any lower looks daft, especially on standard rims.
I may have to get onto Gary about getting some...........
The 172 should be slightly faster 0-60, 0-100, 0-terminal. Relax...you've got the slightly quicker car. The Cooper S probably feels faster due to the low down torque, which is the same reason diesels feel quick.
Your 172 should be good for nearly 140mph, which on the speedo would probably be...
I've buckled an alloy on a pothole (that was covered by a puddle on the inside of a blind corner) before. Getting compensation from the council is like getting blood out of a stone.
I'm not being funny mate but have you had extensive experience test driving all variants of the 172/182 on the limit to learn these finer points of chassis controllability and readability?
I don't know if it was just my valver but the turn in is so much sharper on my 182 and the response to...
The quarter mile times aren't wildly different, but from what I've seen a standard valver is normally around the 16 second mark, a 172/182 closer to 15. (lets not forget that a second at 85-90mph = over 35metres (10 clio-lengths?) assuming identical reaction times, ).
Dan_mk1, good times bud...
