Icarus is 100% correct with all he's said- I'm an electronics tech and work on aircraft for a living. All aircraft connections are crimped and I've had a lot of training in crimping connections correctly.
You can buy "universal" tools that will do those crimps satisfactorily, I've got this tool...
Loosening off the rear section mounts is very important for fitting it. I had to slide mine all the way to the rear and even then the tips still don't quite stick out (unless the system is hot).
I did have major issues getting the system to sit central in the rear cut outs- but a lot of...
Yep, they'd be well and truly worn. The big issue you will have is finding aftermarket shocks for the front- the shock to hub bolt hole spacing is different for the Cup models and not many aftermarket companies seem to cater for Cup models.
By the way have you stumbled across...
All our Aussie 172's came with 15" rims, the 182 models were the first with 16" rims. I don't think they're the best option on the substandard roads we have when combined with Cup suspension.
I think the main thing is to make sure to fit 205/50R15 tyres on the 182's to keep the rolling...
Just do your speakers- that's all I've done and it did make a huge difference. Just choose carefully as you'll need a set with a decent sensitivity (eg. check out the Focal range and aim for 92dB + sensitivity.)
The speakers are definitely the weakest link in the RSC.
I've had mine on two different dynos of the same brand- there was around 20kW difference between the two......
So that's not going to prove much.
Any idea what size tyres are fitted above? My guess (from it's appearance) would be 195/50 which are smaller in overall diameter than 205/45R16's - and would make it appear higher.
Even 205/50R15 is slightly smaller than 205/45R16 but would make it look better.
Oh, you'll most likely find they'll be sticking out a lot further after you've been for a decent drive. The exhaust metal will expand a lot when it's hot.
The rear exhaust mounts are adjustable on the body- you'll most likely find they are adjusted all the way forward. That combined with the slip join being inserted too far is most likely the cause of the tips being hidden.
Focals. I've got them fitted with my stock 182 head unit and the improvement in bass and sound clarity is amazing. The Focals have got a very high sensitivty rating and are ideally suited to driving from a stock headunit. ;)
I'll have another look- I didn't check it out properly but it was infront of the tank on the RHS of it. Mine's a CB21, I think UK spec 182 Cups are CB22- so there are some differences.
Damn! Glad I read this because I bought one for my 182 as well after reading in the Renault service guide the fuel filter needed replacing.
I was under it yesterday (doing other work) and did spot a round filter looking device in front of the tank- what would that be? I take it the pump is...
A friend who's into drag racing uses it in his highly modded Skyline turbo. He said data logging showed an improvement of a couple of degrees C after putting some into his vehicle.
RSTuner is the only way to go. It displays a lot more codes and has diagnostics other generic hand helds or PC interfaces (eg. ELM 327 devices) just can't do.
Focals are worth a look, here's the Australian website link http://www.focalaustralia.com.au/polyglass.html
They make a few different model ranges, the above link is their second from the bottom. The 130's should fit straight in, the 165's will fit but with a fair bit of custom work required.
The problem with those other kits is you still need to pump the brake pedal and check the fluid level isn't dropping too far in the reservoir. Plus you can't check the fluid flowing out the nipple for air bubbles or to see if the old fluid is flushed out if you're doing it by yourself and...
The most important thing (if you're not going to amp) is to check the sensitivity of the speaker. This determines their output volume level for a given input power. Normally it's given as a Decibel level (dB) measured at 1 metre from the speaker, for 1 Watt of input power. So you'll see...
I did my Clio with one about two weeks ago. Even with 20PSI I found the fluid was very slow to bleed through the system. The supplied screw on caps fit the Clio system (on my 182) and it sealed well.
However, I tried using it on some other vehicles and it wasn't so successful. They both have...
It will only clip if you turn it up too loud, but I can certainly turn the volume level up higher with the Focals than I could with the factory speakers.
Basically I've more bass, a lot clearer sound (particularly mid range and treble) and it is louder. A decent result for only a speaker change.
I've done nothing more than replace the stock front speakers in my 182 with a set of Focal 6.5" splits (and faded the rears out completely.) The sound improvement is amazing, and I can get more volume out of the stock headunit- the reason being the size increase of the speaker cone (better low...
