Unikarl, sell your TV, sell your missus, sell your Grandma, sell anything that you can to get out of this car.
I can tell it's not for you, these things just don't have the easy going nature of your previous mounts and they never will have. Sporty Clio's are old school, hard work and can be...
I know that you're not getting a good rap on your purchase but unfortunately I agree with the general consensus.
Top Gear's James May once said that these looked like a dog hunching over to have a s**t, I laughed for a week.:D
Car choice is obviously very personal and you should take all...
Mark, your oil should (within reason) not need topping up ever. New cars can burn a bit during the freeing up process, very old cars can burn a lot (some burn none).
Most modern cars use almost no oil at all.
If your car is burning amounts that are noticeable by the level on the dipstick...
You've heard of 'Dentmaster' yeah?
Try 'Chips Away' or 'Scratch Away'. Both great, both cheap.
Bumped my one week old WRX in to a wall at almost zero speed and the damage was incredible. 50 quid and an hour later (Chips Away) it was perfect.
Good luck.
Told dealer, he freaked, said take it in and oil will be sorted ASAP. Have driven the car for two weeks now and had one long, hard thrash, car seems a little slower than it was but it may be me getting used to it. Dealer is brilliant, nothing is too much trouble. Fingers crossed.
Just bought a 2001 Clio 172 from my local Renault dealer and they were brilliant but I've had it two weeks now so I thought I'd check my oil and it was half an inch above max, should I have some drained or is it ok?
Foamy wheel cleaner, you know the stuff, spray it on, it all foams up (like oven cleaner) and you rinse it off.
Anyway I did exactly what it said on the tin, wheels were cold, didn't leave it on more than 30secs and didn't scrub (it said you could but I played it safe) and sprayed it off with...
I'm sorry to hear this but glad the car's have been found, I know that the invasive feeling is far worse than the material loss, it'll pass once you've spent the money that you were going to spend on performance mods on locks and alarms instead.
Are the car's ok?
yup cheers for the info but this seems a lot slower than i thought, i know the 1.5 lsi are a lot quicker then there supposed to be so maybe the same with the jordan, where u get those stats btw?
Lawson, 167bhp and 1240 kg's = 0-60 in 8 odd secs and 0-100 in 21 secs.
With that weight and...
Aren't they just a VTIS with a paint job?
Ie: Quick and talented but no different from the norm?
If so then testing figures show 167bhp, 8.1 to 60 and 21.7 to 100.
Quoted weight is a suprisingly porky 1241kg which explains the acceleration defecit.
Hope this helps.
Lee, the book time is exactly what you've already read, there is no one time as there are too many variables.
The lowest I've seen quoted is 6.5, the highest is 8.2.
Different cars, different drivers, different track, different weather etc etc.
A healthy car with a talented driver in dry...
I'm incurable at the moment and the 172 is my 54th car and my fifth this year, sometimes I only keep a car for a week and if I manage six months then I'm doing very well.
I read a statistic that said 85% of people change their car through boredom and no other reason.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Oh and as you asked specifically, 30-70mph figures for 182, V6 and 225 are identical, all of them do it in 5.8secs (there's a can of worms).
Simon I will post all the figures but don't have time now.
I did state that figurative analysis can vary wildly from car to car and Autocar's original road test was with a 172 running 95 octane fuel and not showing the pace that an earlier French press car had shown. This is backed up by the...
Mr B, you touched on a point before about subjective assesment and how a car can 'feel' fast without actually being fast and an MX5 is a master of that. I've owned three of them and as well as being very good at 'ducking under' the speed limit they are also one of the world's most reliable cars...
19's screw the handling and are only good for looks, much like the convertible.
The saying is that: '18's are for Rockinham speedway'.........'19's are for the chocolate speedway'.;)
Gross generalisations though as secretly there's not one of us that would turn down an M3 for the weekend...
Roy and Mr Burkitt, I like your thoughtful posts and agree with a lot of what you say.
On the topic of 'modern' hatches being 'too' quick I also agree although I don't believe that it makes them less fun.
My last 6 cars have all intentionally been more about fun at lower speeds because my...
To be honest Roy the Megane so convincingly trounces the 172 through the gears that even if it stayed one gear higher at any given time it would still be quicker (independent test figures, not mine) and if you want to look higher up the rev range the story is the same.
Eg: 60-80 in third...
Mr Birkett, I appreciate and understand your comments but I disagree with your statement that 'modern' hot hatches are less fun. Less tactile maybe, less visceral and more refined for sure, but less fun?
What I see happening is the fun taking place at higher and higher speeds (not always a...
