Possibly mate, was actually looking at one of those earlier! Going to see whats what with the stock cooler first.
Its probably going to be next week sometime before i get chance to build it. If im not happy with the temps I will give you a shout if you still have it.
Been keeping track on...
Roy - do it , Do it, Do It, DO IT !!!!! , hehe, ...

Look about half way down here with the 'Multi-core efficiency', overclocked i7 920 vs stock E6600. I might actually run a few comparisons myself...
For me, this machine will pay for itself in no time at all. I did an encoding job a couple of weeks back and it took up my current machine for around 2 hours (core 2 duo E6400). With this i7 machine it will surely half that or even quarter that time based on the benchmarks ive seen.
found that article about the retail versions ..

Cheers Roy, I should rename the title to 'New system - i7 poverty build (in comparison to Adams monster) advice ' ;)
I read something about getting the retail version of the 920 because something is unlocked ?
I also looked at faster RAM for similar money. TBH I wouldnt need much more than...
I'm yet undecided on the OS, been using Vista Business for maybe 2 years now but still tempted to flip back to XP Pro because Vista can be so annoying.
This is a non-gaming rig, will be purely used for business apps (visual studio, sql sever, video encoding, custom automated apps). I've nabbed the main spec from OC, is there anything worth changing OR adding to the list below ? Will be looking to overclock to 3.0/3.4 ish.
Intel i7 920...
+1
Mate has just got one of these and its pretty impressive for the money and considering its 2.1. Also, you can get the additional speakers to make it 5.1 if you really wanted at a later date. Have to say just in 2.1 its very good.
If you can, do try to stretch for some seperates (i.e...

Honestly, they should have left the factory like that. Power is a lot more useable, nice not having to cog it down to overtake etc.
We need to send an e-invite on behalf of a client to around 1000 users. Last time we used 'Mail List Controller' and sent it from our mail server which was quick and easy. However, we got around 10% bounce back I think due to spam filters etc.
I need a type of PAYG service ideally as its just...
I wonder if in another 15/20 years this will be the conversation ...
"You dont know how good you have it!, back in the day we only had 3/4Ghz quad core processors, we even had to p*ss around overclocking them and even use liquid cooling on some!, Now stop moaning about your qubit quantum cpu !"
Turbo button FTW!!!
Forgot about those, was there a purpose for them ? I could see a purpose now maybe to save a bit of energy but surely you wouldnt save much clocking from 10mhz to 20mhz!
lol , I remember my DX25 looking very much like that! Piece of sh*t it was.
That was 1994 when i started work from school. It ran a CAD package in DOS and i remember one job that came in and it took 2 hours just to render it on the screen! .. if you hit refresh by accident it was a nightmare...
When i started work i had a DX25 or in todays money 0.025 Ghz!!
Windows 3.1 I think aswell.
I think the first pentium machine I got was a P60 or P75 (0.075 Ghz!)
Slow as sh*t!
Yep, anything like that really. Had an issue this morning with someone trying to define the access point in the remote office and running into problems. We have detailied easy to follow instructions on how to do it but they still can get it to work. If I could have remote access to the phone I'd...
We need to remotely support some Nokia E71 smart phones. Does anyone know or use any software to connect via USB to remotely configure (sort of remote desktop with a phone display GUI).
Basically a lot of users will be at a remote office so they could plug the phone into their PC then we can...
I used 2 x Cisco Aironets (1310s i think) a few years back to link up 2 offices 100m apart. Got full 54mbps across the link, ran 10 users and 10 VOIP nortel phones without a single hiccup, tons of security options, easy enough to setup. Think they were about £1200 with the mounting kits.
