Thank god we all have a choice at the end of the day and that's what it boils down to really.
Your money, your car.
Good oils are insurance and save money in the long term (cat life is one good example) but it's your choice.
No marketing hype, just a choice and for modded/tracked car a...
As it says in the article, the real thing is far more expensive to make.
Price is the real difference.
There are some good ones mentioned above, not exhaustive but some to be going on with.
If your car is standard and used on the road, the real thing is better but not as necessary as...
Niether... it is a hydrocracked mineral oil, in short the better half of a semi synthetic but in the true sense of the word it is not synthetic at all.
Cheers
Guy.
Sure,
Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 = ester/pao
Motul 300v 5w-40 = ester/pao
Redline 5w-40 = ester/pao
Mobil 1 0w-40 = pao
Castrol Edge Sport 0w-40 = pao
Amsoil Synthetic = pao
Fuchs Supersyn 5w-40 = pao
Just to name a few.

Guy.
Leon,
Have a look here http://www.opieoils.co.uk and the look at the likes of Silkolene, Motul and Fuchs, these are all elf quality and above.
The best are the ester based oils of Silkolene and Motul.
Cheers
Guy.
Costs of synthetics vary considerably. The most expensive are the “Ester” types originally only used in jet engines. These cost 6 to 10 times more than high quality mineral oils.
The cheapest synthetics are not really synthetic at all, they are dug out of the ground and not manmade. These...
A short lesson on Multigrades:
If you see an expression such as 10W-40, the oil is a multigrade.
This simply means that the oil falls into 2 viscosity grades, in this case 10W & 40.
This is made possible by the inclusion of a polymer, a component which slows down the rate of thinning as...

The 10w-50 from elf will be fine, an average quality oil.
If at a good price buy it but the best quality options are the ester based oils of Silkolene and Motul. Like all things, you get what you pay for... if your lucky.
Cheers
Guy.
We are asked all the time about the use of magic addatives / miracle cures.
This one is certainly no exception in its claims.
Having read about it, I asked Silkolene was this a miracle addative and were the claims possible or more importantly technically possible?
If you're...
The term synthetic is one big grey area when it comes to oil as many labled as such are in fact hydrocracked mineral oils.... hense the guy with the comma oil and impreza's, its not a true synthetic.
You will always pay a premium for synthetic oil for a few reasons, they are better, they cost...
The Castrol 0w-30 is really designed as a long life oil for BMW and VAG type engines, it shte way things are going and in the next few years you will probably see some french cars running around on this type of grade.
As it stands at the moment a 5w-40 or 0w-40 would be a better choice as it...
Yep,
5w-40 or 0w-40 full synthetic is the best choice. The best of these are the ester based synthetics of Motul and Silkolene, followed by the pao synthetics like Amsoil, Mobil, Castrol Edge and Fuchs.
Cheers
Guy.
