It's not designed for track cars but for unmodified road cars.
Wrong application.
Take a look at the Silkolene Pro S or Motul 300V here
www.opieoils.co.uk
The quality choice is for a 5w-40 synthetic, most popular from us are the ester based synthetics of the Silkolene Pro S and the Motul 300v, their not cheap but you get what you pay for.
If you dont want to spend that kind of money the are more midrange synthetics that are worth a look such as...
A good Dot4 or Dot5.1 is what you need.
You can get one from Halfords or from my goodself with cliosport discount http://www.opieoils.co.uk
Cheers
Guy.
Yep it will be ok, look to change it around 5-6,000 miles.
If you want to go down the quality route then 5w-40 synthetic changed every 8-10,000 miles.
Cheers
Guy.
The halfords track day 5w-50 is ok but not as good as they make out, its a modified mineral oil not a true synthetic.
A good quality true synthetic 5w-40 is ideal, we recomend ester based oils for track work such as Silkolene Pro S and the Motul 300v, these will give you around 8 track hours...
Hi All,
Just a quick update for you, first we would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who’s sent in a picture of their car modeling our Opieoils logo so far for the new Street Gallery on our Brand New Website (coming soon!!). They’re all looking great!!!
If you have sent me a...
As long as you change the oil every 8-10,000 miles I would look at a good performance synthetic such as the Silkolene Pro S or the Motul 300v.
If you want to stick to VW specs then the VW503.01 spec oil is the one to go for, have a look at the Motul 8100 0w-30.
Cheers
Guy.
Most of the time yes.
They way to tell is for the ACEA specs on the can. So you might see the oil meets ACEA A3/B3 (A is for petrol and B is for diesel) you will find most meet both, the different sticker helps both customer and the manufacturer for market research etc.
Cheers
Guy.
Answers From The Oil Expert Part 2
Hello all,
As a follow on from our last post on questions and answers from John Rowland we now have part 2 for those that crave more “oily knowledge”.
As before some of these topics have been covered but we feel worth the read.
Some oil companies...
But not from us this time!
We get asked many oil related questions every day and decided to put some of the most frequently asked ones to an Oil Expert called John Rowland. He has been the Chief R&D Chemist for Fuchs/Silkolene for many years and previously developed ahead of their time...
Sure,
Drop me a mail to sales@opieoils.co.uk with the address you want them sent to, I will send some out.
Take some piccies and I will getum up on my new site.
Cheers
Guy.
We need a picture of your car!!
If you have an Opie Oils sticker on your car... Ive seen some around, send us a photo with the logo in clear view and you will be given a priority position as the first members of the Opie Oils ‘Street Gallery’, to be launched as part of our new website...
We are often asked why don’t you do an article on Gear Oils? Well, an article would be very complex but here are the answers to a few FAQ’s that we have had over the years.
What does API GL mean?
API stands for American Petroleum Industry and GL stands for Gear Lubricant, see below for...
All oils are comprised of basestocks and additives. Basestocks make up the majority of the finished product and represent between 75-95%.
Not all basestocks are derived from petroleum, in fact the better quality ones are synthetics made in laboratories by chemists specifically designed for...
I read on many forums about 0w and 5w oils being too thin.
0w-40, 5w-40, 10w-40 and 15w-40 are all the same thickness (14 centistokes) at 100degC.
Centistokes (cst) is the measure of a fluid's resistance to flow (viscosity). It is calculated in terms of the time required for a standard...
Yes I do peddle my ways, we all have to make a living.
You are correct, you can use an average quality 10w-40 semi and all will be fine. But people often want better wether they need it or not, my most frequently asked quest is "what is the best oil for my car" and the best is generally what...
