    which oil

You can use fully at 2k, use 5w-40 fully synthetic. I have many (just email me for a price list) they range from £22-£32 for 4/5 litres depending on basestock quality. Cheers, Simon

    Oil for 172cup

Definately 5w-40 fully synthetic and bear in mind that 5w-40 and 10w-40 are the same viscosity when hot. Both 14cst at 100degC. The difference is cold crank viscosity and 5w gives better protection from wear on start. Cheers Simon

    Another Oil question

Whether you use a 0w-40, 5w-40, 10w-40 or 15w-40 they are all sae 40s and have a viscosity at 100degC of 14cst. So, they all provide the same hot protection! The "w" number denotes "cold crank viscocity" and is relevent to cold start viscosity and how quickly the oil flows when you turn the...

    which oil- valver

I would go for 5w-40 anytime over 10w-40, its better for cold start wear. See my thread - Oil Recommendations, its all explained there. Cheers Simon

    Oil for the 182 - a source

Hmm, dont know what happened to my reply. Based on the below, I would say there are quite a few and with extended drain periods they will probably cost you less per annum. Oil drains can be extended Vehicle life can be extended Costly repairs can be reduced Fuel mileage can be improved...

    Oil for the 182 - a source

Manufacturers in the main recommend a minimum standard, you can always step up from this minumum. I.E. Many recommend 10w-40 Semi-synthetic, it doesnt preclude you from using a fully synthetic. Unless of course you own a rotary engine but, thats a whole different story! Cheers Simon (RX8...

Modded your car or doing trackdays

TIP: Find out what GROUP basestock they use. IV and V are the only true synthetics. Cheers Simon

    Oil for the 182 - a source

I would recommend Silkolene PRO S 5w-40 if you want to buy a good proper ester/pao synthetic http://www.opieoils.co.uk/TechSpecs/PRO%20S%20-%204%20Wheel.pdfhttp://www.opieoils.co.uk/TechSpecs/PRO%20S%20-%204%20Wheel.pdf 1x5 litres = £39.55 incl carriage 2x5 litres = £72.25 incl carriage...

Modded your car or doing trackdays

Er yes, thats what I do. A proper synthetic 5w-40 like Motul 300V 5w-40 or Silkolene PRO S 5w-40. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/TechSpecs/PRO%20S%20-%204%20Wheel.pdfhttp://www.opieoils.co.uk/TechSpecs/PRO%20S%20-%204%20Wheel.pdf...

Modded your car or doing trackdays

If you are "modding" your car and adding BHP or using your car for track days then consider your oil choice carefully as the stock manufacturers recommended oil will not give you the protection that your engine requires. A standard oil will not be thermally stable enough to cope with higher...

    Oil for the 182 - a source

Do you really think its possible to formulate a decent oil at these prices? The answer is NO, you get what you pay for. Think how many people there are in the chain, the oil refinery, the additive suppliers, the wholesalers ane the retailers. The base cost of this oil is next to nothing and...

    182 oil-ordered

I would say based on price its Group III. The HTHS number would confirm this if we could get hold of it. Cheers Simon

    182 oil-ordered

If you are talking quality and performance the following order should be observed: Best = Fully synthetic (Group IV PAO and Group V Esters) Second best = Fully/Semi-synthetic (Group III hydrocracked oils) Third = Mineral oils (Group II mineral basestocks) This should explain: Basestock...

    182 oil-ordered

Ok, there are different types of basestocks that can be called synthetics although some are just actually highly refined mineral oils which are called hydrocracked (group III) but true synthetics are not petroleum based, they are made in laboratories by chemists and unlike petroleum basestocks...

    182 oil-ordered

Not meaning to sound funny or controversial but does anyone know how good this oil is? Looking at the price (even for a larger amount) is would appear to be Group III (hydrocracked) basestocks and not a Group IV or V (pao/ester) proper synthetic. Just playing devils advocate, its your car...
