Hi Nick,
When I had the Audi Coupe S2 I had the front disks/pads upgraded after getting the car chipped to 280bhp. The company that did the conversion couldnt get S2 pads with the correct material. They somehow managed to order custom pads from Ferrodo/ditributor with the correct backplates...
I changed my oil and filter at 1500 miles. Was quite shocked how much sh*t came out with that oil. Used Reno filter + Mobil 1 0W40, 1 hour job. Pointless doing an oil change if you dont change the filter IMHO (only costs £6 anyway). I do fairly short journeys so plan to change every 4 to 6...

Try looking at some of the classic restoration mags or these type companies on the net. There is always a demand in this sector for re-chroming. Plastics can certainly be chromed. As explained above, I believe they need to be treated with a special metalic primer first then coated by cold...
Hey Chris .... wives always come round to these things eventually. I get the same too mate ..." the cars new why do you need a new exhaust? ... yak ...yak..etc..." Ive got her over a barrel now though! I told her that I wasnt letting her and my daughter take the 172 on weekend shopping trips...
Those look the biz Chris! Vvveeerrrrryyyy nice. Watch those kerbs mate!
Out of curiosity how are these fitted to the hubs, the holes for the bolts look too small! Do they use special sleeve nuts?
Which spring set are you planning to go for? After I eventually get the K-Tec exhaust Im...
I take it then you are using Proxes T1 S as apposed to the T1 Plus (as I used in the above comparison)? Your right The T1 S is very similar to the GY F1 in design with diagonal grooves.
When you compare the tread patterns on the Toyo Proxies and the Conti Sport there is very little difference visually. The Conti has an assymetrical tread which claims to strike a better compromise between wet and dry handling. They both have main grooves that circumvent the tyre but with lots of...
Would be interesting to see how the new MKII ESP would react to such a situation? I would imagine it would kill the power and try to get back in shape using the brakes/ABS? Probably would still hit the gate ...but harder ... LOL! ..... Maybe Ive been heading for this kind of situation but didnt...
Afraid guys Im with telford_mike and teady172 on this issue. I have no real gripes with the Conti Sports. Like any tyres they will let go under the right conditions wet or dry! Im sure Reno (will give them some credit here) did their sums when they chose the Contis and tried to select a tyre...
My wifes 95 N 1.9D has done 185K in dismal Scottish weather and doesnt have any bubbling on the rear arches. But then either its luck or due to the fact that I always pressure wash or hose the rear inside arches when giving it a wash! Sediment trapped in or against the arch seams is like a damp...
Poured almost 4L off Mobil 1 into my old 16V Golf .....without putting the sump plug back in ....covered the pit floor instead. Had to explain this to my neighbour (creased with laughter) so that he would take me up to the shops for another 25 squids worth of oil !! Sure Im not the only dork...
I put a post up a while back on this subject. I hear this every time I start up in the morning from dead cold (MKII 172 2200 miles). Lasts for about a minute. You can actually hear the change from whine to normal almost instantly when it happens. Sounds like a timing chain type whine .... but no...
In my past experience, going for larger rims than standard does this to most cars and is not just unique to Clios. To retain the same overall rolling wheel diameter (gearing/speedo calibration) the alloy rim size increases, profile reduces and tyre section increases. Whether FWD, RWD or AWD the...
Ive been motoring and polishing for more years than I care to admit (ok ..22 yrs!). I started off on Simoniz wax in the tin ..... yep it was bl**dy hard work but gave a good finish to my first car, a white MK1 Ford Escort.
Winter time is the best for polishing with this stuff. Too hot in the...
Anything above 12V with lights etc on with engine off suggests that the battery is OK and your alternator is doing the biz in between times. Would expect the voltage to dip below 12V during start. In cold conditions the starter can draw three figure Amps on initital cold startup, less when hot...

Hi Slugger, Thanks for the info. I suspected that the K-Tec was a bit louder than the Magnex, going by past forum posts. As I declared on the above post I have now EVENTUALLY decided to go for the K-Tec Oval (Chris convinced me!) and probably with the central silencer. The oval is supposed to be...
Ive had 6 clios over the past few years ranging from 1.4RT, 1.6 RXE, 1.6 Sport, 1.6 Dyna+ and my present MK2 172. Without a doubt, this is the best built Clio Ive had so far! Only rattles I have are the passenger seat and the instrument dimmer/esp switch panel.
The glove box on my last 1.6...

Just got my Winter 2002/3 (No.161) Renault magazine through the post. Pages 61 to 65 hold an article on the Super 1600 Clio! A little strange but they are discussing this model alongside a dCi 80 (no offence to owners), but complete extremes!!
If anyone is interested I can scan the article and...

Cheers Cord-172, would be interested to see what you have done. If you need someone to host the picture let me know. Like all these experiments .... you never know the outcome until you try! Often the best laid plans can turn out to be crap, but then on the other hand the cheap and easy...
Yeh. OK 100mm is a pretty big tube, if only we could find the space to fed this down the front of the clio engine compartment! Good point though about the air volume/heat exchange .... acts like a bigger heat exchanger.
Isnt gold a better conductor of heat than other metals? Would look the...
Hi Ben!
Not flaming, just having polite debate!
As I said before "Ram Air" effects dont really come into the equation unless you have an efficient air dam and sufficient speed.
...... Sheet steel, aluminium or carbon fibre what difference does it really make? You will never get a perfect...
I value your opinion JoZeFF.
Please dont take this the wrong way, but please tell me some reasons behind your thoughts? ;) I have given my theory for what it may be worth, whats yours?
