I reckon ABS is probably crap if braking whilst racing around a track. Generally, unless someone screws up in front you can normaly calculate your braking to the apex of the bends whithout locking in respect to the conditions whether dry or wet. Diving in these conditions will always "feel"...
Cheers Chris, not too bad really. I have recently fitted a K&N 57i and plan to fit a Magnex at the turn of the new year, so will declare the mods to the insurance then. Good quote from Elephant too! My renewal is due Feb ... worth looking at!
Roamer: A strut brace that is not bolted in or mechanically fixed to the turrets by some other means (eg. welding) is a waste of time in terms of enhancing handling performance (due to flex in the rubber top mounts). OK though if you only want it for looks only ;) You may already know this but...
My old 1.6 16V Dyna+ had this problem. You normally had to use the plip almost right up to the side window to get it working. It was also variable, some days working a couple of metres away.
The 172 is completely different, being able to trigger it about 20 metres away. Both the above cars, to...

Look forward to seeing these. My Clio is Silver too so will give me and others of the same a good idea. If can host the pictures if required. Send to mailto:email@clio-sport-172.co.uk">email@clio-sport-172.co.uk
E Kennedy: I remember the Daily Record had a campaign down at No 10 many many months ago regards the Scottish logos on plates. I vaguely remember the outcome was that an official SCO/Scotland emblem would be designed and made available for use in the future in addition to the euro UK version. In...

I used silver hammerite on my past 3L Scimitar GTE front calipers (oohh dear showing my age again!!) Afraid it all discoloured quite quickly and flaked off after about year! (Even mixed it well GR ;)) But then the Mintex disc pads used to smoke after a good hooch along the local lanes! I...
Im no expert on 16Vs. However, If it does it without moving then it certainly cant be your CV joints. The noise must be something to do with the power steering pump/drive belt/pulleys or steering rack!?
Weyland, my Audi S2 turbo engine runs like a old Skoda on 95 RON with a fuel consumption of ~18 mpg? If I used the past 97 RON Super Unleaded or the latest Optimax 98 RON replacement the car goes like sh*t of a shovel and returns an average of 25 - 26 mpg !
BTW, Reno these days generally have...
Ive used Shell Optimax since day one on my 172. With an 11:1 compression ratio the engine in the 172 will run "below par" on less than 98 octane. The knock sensors will probably have a de-tuning effect on the engine to reduce pre-ignition. The CR on smaller 16V engines is around 10:1 so are less...

Your welcome grandson !! He he :D What colour is your va va voom paddy? .....perhaps I can decide what colour of paint you should use? If you use the Halfords paint you have the VAST choice of blue, red or silver!!
Right Paddy here you are. The stock 172 alloys probably dont show the calipers as much as a thin spoked wheel. Probably more noticable when in motion. My self side shots of the 172 are not to good at 70mph !!! LOL...
I normally use the Halfords caliper paint. Expensive (~£20) but lasts. A bit "boy-racerish" I know, but hate looking at sh*ty calipers through alloys! I did the front & rear calipers on my Ausi S2 about 5 years ago and still looks as good as new when skooshed with the pressure washer. The brakes...
Just checked on the Reno official website. According to the tech specs ALL new Clio II models (ie. 1.2, 1.216V, 1.416V, 1.5dCi, Cup and 172 have a wall to wall turning citcle of 10.7m.....but then Ive spotted mistakes on their specs before!
Not sure what the figures are for the Clio I range?

On our Scottish meet today we visited the local dealer and seen a brand spanking new UK Clio 172 due for delivery. Was surprised to see that the Iceberg had clear side repeaters fitted. Perhaps Reno are snooping on this forum and listening to our opinions?? Anyway, now that Ive seen this there...
172s after around Aug 2002 are fitted standard with Traction Control (ASR) and ESP (previous supply was a £750 option for ESP). As mikeherts posted there is an ESP button on the dash that can disable/enable the TC and ESP (normally enabled on start-up). When disabled the "skidding car" lamp on...
Think bad turning circles ....think Phase 1 1.9 Diesel (My good wifes company carraige). Sounds like a tractor, drives like a tractor, rattles like a tractor and turns like a tractor ! However done 180K+ miles on original suspension and engine. Still going like an argricultural workhorse! Only...
