The engine is f*cked, he claims he's had it rebuilt but they did a crap job of it. The work has 8 months warranty but he can't be bothered taking it back to get it fixed. But it's mint, just not sound.

I doubt you would notice much difference on the road TBH. Never used the Max though so I may be wrong, but the HC's do a good enough job for me.

Nah it's the High Carbon ones, they are cheaper than the Max.

Comes it handy when you are going for nice DOF. It's a great lens, hope you have fun with it. It WILL improve your photography as you need to move about with it instead of just standing the same places and zooming in and out.
