A few pictures as requested. Still looks good after not turning a wheel for 4 years. I have the original bumper in the garage waiting to be repaired and painted .
The sunflower hasnt been on the road for 4 years now. Kept in back garden. Still starts on the button and looks really good despite its age and 140k miles.
What should i do to protect it further ? Isnt even kept under cover. Can somebody recommend steps to protect it ?
unfortunately it looks like the tree sap has made the roof and bonnet very flat. i did clay it but it looks deeper than that. could it be machine polished out ?
if it comes to that i will put another motor in it. its an easy enough job. it has been out twice already and then fitted a new motor when the earlier went south
i wont be doing any mechanicals on it..im not going to drive it. i want to restore it back to how it was when on the road. it has big sentimental value for me. will never be sold.
i replaced the belts and clutch just before it was retired. i dropped an engine in it when the bottom pulley separated and dropped the belt. all came together.
what does it cost to tax a 2001 clio 172 ?
Last night i fired up my old sunflower 172 that has been parked on the driveway since 2011. Started it every now and then just to check it still runs.
I am going to try and sort it and get rid of the green hue and pigeon s**t from it. As it is parked under a very large tree it suffers from the...
take the whole lump out. Do the clutch , sort the box. While you are at it have the belts changed and your good to go.

this happened on my phase 1. i simply had the sleeve replaced and the seal that sits behind it. im no expert but i think the later boxes are different in that they have to be stripped.
these symptoms are exactly the same as what i saw last year when my bottom pulley broke up. think compressions should be about 185 psi ish....
hope you have been lucky mate. think there is a quick check you can do . set it at tdc and remove the plugs and the ends of the cams should line up. no...
mine did this last year ....... the crank pulley fell apart. the crank pulley is in two parts with a rubber damper. it fell apart and damaged the cambelt bending all of the valves in the process. it only made a metallic noise when on full lock and load from the pump was going through the...
sunflower phase 1. 145k . looks okish when clean. X plate. no service history apart from what i have in my head. standard car. one owner previous to me. i have owned it for 5 years i think...

My phase 1 172 smells a bit fumey in the car and when parking it up. Smells like it maybe burning oil and does use some but nothing too dramatic. Engine is at 100K
When a clio engine wears and starts to burn a bit of oil is it typically valve seals or something more sinister ?
