The starter is getting hot from the manifold. When the heat shield is on it reflects the heat away from the starter.

He has it replaced already :)

Get a heat shield on it :) Should fix that problem... As for the icv... Is there any small long pipe coming off the airbox and going into the inlet. Clean that out :) I'll give a look at a ph2 172 I've in the yard tomorrow ;)

I put the whole hub off and put it on a bench and beat it then :)

Just get a headgasket set(HG,head seals, valve stems etc) Your valves are probably bent also. new head bolts are a must. williams head bolts are €188! No idea how much they are for 172's

It will fit fine. Since your doing work to it... Why don't you get a ph1 head? bigger exhaust ports as standard. (30% bigger iirc?) ​

If you want itbs cheaper... Go through eBay or put up a wanted add up here :) I got a nice set off eBay from a 206. In the middle of fitting them myself. Just need a loom and a mapper :)

By mk1 do you mean valver/williams?? Or a ph1 172? All will fit your engine fine(valver/williams need there own gearbox mount)

Is the aux belt okay? The aux pulley? Normally if they go they take the timing belt with it :(
