Olly, old boy, dont believe the superchips hype either - got my cup schipped back in April, and rrd it last week; admittedly it was very hot at 91 degrees F but it only gave me 163bhp at the fly: thats with a superchip!! Got it to 167 by adding a green filter. Torque was 154lbft which is way...
Ben - your comments are most reassuring; a power diff of 14bhp is massive, and I was hoping that I was perhaps losing 5 or 6 bhp because of the heat yesterday.
Of course Im only really going on about this because my old L reg 98000 mile totally standard civic vti gave me 167bhp on the same...
Cheers all for the helpful comments.
Paddy & Rhys - agree that RRs are crap, but isnt 1/4 miling too dependant on your own ability to be consistent? Do you just have to do plenty of runs each time and average them or something?
Chris H - 1011 bar? I dont know, whatever they use to measure...
See? They rub it in how climate/leather&alcantara/decent soundproofing/6 disk cd player/etc, etc make us Cuppies feel like cheapskates, and then we have to retaliate....
...by claiming 3mm here and 10mm there, 0.3 secs here and 89kg there, etc....
No, you could be right Tom - the mileage is 9200, so yep, the old filter was a little grubby (and very orange). Is it best to try a few different rolling roads, too?
How much affect can air temp have on BHP?
Ive had my Cup rrd today (its first one since I got it in March), and I couldnt help but feel disappointed with the bhp figures - 144.9 at the wheels, and 163.3 at the fly wheel was the best of two runs (144.4 & 163.1 for the first one). It got...
Ive just hit 9000 miles in my cup, and I seem to be sliding all over the place all of a sudden, eg severely understeering when powering around roundabouts at 20-25mph - its fun, but not intentionally so. Tread depth looks fine, and theres no uneveness to the wear, so is it just that contis are...
Yes, every millimetre counts you know, or at least thats what I keep telling the mrs. And the camber angle is different on the cup, hence all the problems us cup owners have which you 172 owners dont.
Ive superchipped my cup. Havent had it dynod yet, so dont know what the quantifyable difference is, but it feels even more responsive - more torquey. Im using 3rd far more at 40-45mph, where before i would have used 2nd to ensure I got a quick burst in. I can spin the wheels in 3rd in the wet...
Could someone please reply to Gunners question about retro-fitting it - cos I want it too!!
I asked about this at my dealer about 3 months ago, ie before it was announced that the cup would be available with cc, and they estimated about £1000 in parts plus £4-500 labour; thought £1500 a bit...
Mitsi - I dont know if there have been more faults with cups or not, but I think the widely publicised suspension knocking problem does seem to be unique to the cup - I guess its related to the different geometry settings that the cup has.
Philip - well put.
Seems to me ppl who are selling after only a few thousand miles in their cups have one of two reasons for doing so:
1) they have got the hang of going fast in a great handling punchy car which is a little basic and is prone to problems which force ppl to deal with sh*te dealers, and who want...
Price seems pretty fair - I havent seen any advertised for less than £9500 yet. Which might suggest that the Cup has another advantage over 172 - doesnt suffer from initial depreciation quite so badly as 172, eg many people have paid £11-11,500 for their cups since last September, but only lost...
Its called the "ACTIS" bulletin - its issued to dealers and details known faults and the procedures to follow for repairing them. Had my "front strut tolerances" sorted and front dampers replaced as a result of it.
Best idea so far Stromba, and in my case would save 98.4kg (weighed myself in Boots today - still a fat b*****d, then). However, what car would you drive in behind that could possibly keep up? Would your Volvo 340 1.7 (theyre ace) suffice?
Never considered a Clio before. Found the Cup by accident whilst on the way to decide which one of 3 used imprezas (w/x reg UK turbos) I was going to buy for £11k; I didnt get to the subaru garage.
My Cup just makes me smile every day.
Had a couple of 205GTIs, 2 Honda Civic VTis and a Golf VR6 in the past - cup is perfect blend of their respective strengths - great handling, noisy high rev power, and low rev torque.
Oh, and 34.9mpg average over last 5000 miles - average speed same...
Yeah, I thought that too - 16.9 or somat for the cup??
Anyway, I love my cup, but I really envy the 172 guys for having climate control on days like today when its sticky and hot. Not bothered about the other differences at all, and if I was getting a cup now Id specify climate with it. Shame...
Cheers Rich D. Funnily enough, it was seeing a blue 106 Rallye (later type) the other day that put the thought in my head. I getting closer to taking the plunge then...
