007 - my view, too - sounds good, but Id need to see it first.
Cheers Patty - I reckon Compos/Speedlines would give it more of a motorsport look, and could look great against the blue of the cup.
Weight - fair point, and if no-one else has done it but I can see a mock up I might go for it...
Has anyone on here made the bold move of putting white speedlines (or similar) on their cup? I fancy the idea, but whats the balance of opinion on here? Any pics (real or photoshopd) appreciated.
Just read this article in this weeks autocar - it amazes me how our ickle clios keep getting grouped with such mega f*cking ace supercars!!!
Full line up - TVR, M3, Lambo, 911, Evo 8, caterham, RS Focus, Noble M12, VX220, and.......a clio cup!!!! Great.
Who cares what stage it got kicked...
Chris 172 - so by going past the normal range of the potentiometer, youre effectively turning it all the way up to "11"? Cool.
Anyone know where I can get a "Marshall" sticker, then?
Blimey - I didnt expect this to be so widespread - thought it was just a problem with mine not being a smooth throttle. Whats even more weird is that I only discovered it about a month ago, so for the first 2 months of Cup ownership Id only been going at 95%.
With my Cup, when I press the accelerator it goes steadily to the floor and stops. However, once it feels like its stopped travelling if I press it a little harder it gives another 5mm or so, all-of-a-sudden. Its almost like somethings got stuck behind the pedal which gives in when you press...
OK, got my suspension noise sorted today. This was the "suspension mount tolerances" issue covered in the ACTIS bulletin that goes round the renault dealers. The fix they used was to alter the tolerances (I dont know if this means "chop it about a bit"), replace both front shock absorbers, and...
Sorry Rich, dunno m8.
Frosty - I asked my local dealer about retro-fitting climate to my 52 reg cup, and the mechanic went through all the parts that would be needed; condensor, radiator, compressor, wiring loom, control panel, and worked out a cost of about £1500 inc labour and VAT. Warned me...
Well, you learn something every day. I honestly thought 172s were £15500, sorry. Have I imagined that they once were £15.5k? Have they come down in price over the last year or so?
BenR - In the interest of conducting an objective debate Ive just tried it, and I can confirm that cling film is crap at absorbing snot. So my face is now green. As is my choice of filter.
I took mine to my dealer today. It took them about 10 minutes to confirm that the problem was a known fault and was caused by wrong "shock absorber mounting tolerances". Its a fault thats been reported to renault dealers as part of an "ACTIS bulletin", whatever that is. Doesnt sound like its...
Id heard there was a common fault on cups to do with strut mounts. Mine has a clonking noise on the drivers side at low speeds, and its going to my local dealer this saturday morning to be checked out.
Heath Robinson = a way of describing something which looks home made but functions well enough. I dont know who he/she was. Its often a term associated with inventions and prototypes.
Welcome middle finger.
Ive had my cup for 2 months and nothings dropped off (yet!). No pics, but heres a 1.3mb vid clip that will give you an idea of noise from inside - http://www.ashworthbrown.co.uk/users/gb7770/30-70cup.mpghttp://www.ashworthbrown.co.uk/users/gb7770/30-70cup.mpg - this has...
Round the twisties Im sure willys are as quick.
Thanks for the responses all. I was asking because Ive done a very crude video and overlayed a timer onto the video, and I reckon 5.9 was my time. This doesnt allow for any speedo inaccuracies, and it was raining.
The clip is 1.3mb so watch...
Am I the only one who thought that the Cup was supposed to be limited to a run of 500 per year? Anyone know exactly how many have been produced for the UK market?
