He may have changed your IP address to a static one.
He may have turned off your wireless card
He may have reset your WEP key from you saved wireless networks [assuming your wirless network is encrypted]
The problem is once the loom is disconnected the reconnected this resets things and they work for a perod of time before the inevitable. So fault finding will proove difficult.
The problem with my VX was to do with the connector/loom but mos other guys have found it was either the ECU or Acc...
I had this on my VX... the downsides of fly by wire. Its either any of the following:-
ECU
Wiring/connectors from ECU to accelarator sensor/TB
Accelerator sensor
TB
Good luck - an expensive problem whatever the outcome.
Save it for when it breaks! lol
Id go for a decatted YS System, BMC CDA, Oversized CAF, Remap. [your not going to get anymore on that budget]
Personally Id get some coilovers first though before touching the engine.

My 172 used to smoke my CTR though! Id love to strip out the CTR and apply the same mods to it to see how quick it is in that form! --Not happening though!
I did - an RAF Sprint Day @ Barkston Heath. Timed in at 57secs not far off the caterhams [by a sec or two] and faster than alot of surprisingly expensive exotic machinery ;)

Yes you can but they look tacky IMO. Also I like the deep set position - it shields glare from the sun.
BTW - have you seen the bloody Alpine manual! Massive!!!! Plus you will need it most stuff is not obvious!

I tested the Monaco's and Imola S' side by side - a huge difference in shape, the way they grip you and swallow you up, and the padding is nice and comfy.
Try them - you'll love them.
That means it hasnt been run in properly. I have had my CTR from new - when I first had it - it drank about 1 litre of oil within a thousand miles - since then it hasnt needed topping up between oil changes. Oh and no smoke from the exhaust either - you may be looking at a shagged CTR.
