ye you have sort of got it wrong but not completely. in simpleman terms The inlets are boshed out in the factory and are slightly smaller than the head as standard and have some minor imperfections in them. getting them matched i.e ported etc, means you will have better smoother airflow...

is it a standard renault filter (orange papery type)? If yes replace it. If it is an aftermarket filter e.g pipercross/k&n give it a thorough clean, there is a guide in the guide sections for cleaning aftermarket filters (ITG ones, similar principle)

cold air feed wont make any more induction noise for a cone filter, just means your car might run a little bit better. It is probably quicker with the standard airbox system on a 1.2tbh but you were after some induction noise if i remember from one of your old posts right? Worth getting one...
